Question for header owners

For those of you that have installed Comptech headers...

How would you describe the change in engine sound after the installation. Be as specific as possible if you could. I'm looking for opinions of both noise level and quality of sound at all rpms.

Thanks!!

C'mon guys..... NOT ONE RESPONSE from an actual header owner!!!

Thanks, Jens for your input, though.

I realize there isn't a lot of change, but the sound IS different. I'm trying to determine if my headers have an exhaust leak. I **think** I can hear a very faint hissing sound above 5000rpm. I've got about 80 miles on my headers now and I can detect a slightly stronger pull above 5000rpm, but not much. I don't know if I was just expecting too much or if I have a problem.

Does the removal of the heat shields cause any effect? Honda designed them for a purpose and I would like to know it. It might have been to keep fingers from burning but I bet in their heat transfer models something in that area gets too hot. Any thought or seen any problems??

I do notice a little i mean very faint noise in increase. You can hear it when you have your music off completely. It just sounds like air moving through pipes like exhuast noise but very very faint. Won't even notice it if you have music on all the time like me. The sound is almost like a little uoooo ,uhoooo sound only when I give it gas. You probably won't be able to tell, don't worry.

I got them installed last weekend.
There may be a slight increase in noise but not large enough for me to notice. I have the music on almost all the time mostly.

GoldTypeS,

I would seriously consider retorquing your headers, as the hissing sound that you hear may very well be leakage. I say this because when I had headers installed on my Prelude Si, I too had a hissing sound above 4000 rpm. After checking, I found that there was not a tight seal. Also, you should look into getting header gaskets which can prevent further leakage along with retorquing your headers.

I assumed that the hissing sound was the sound of the escaping gases passing through the thinner walls of the headers. I have always heard that at high rpms and I have, in fact, had my headers retorqued about two weeks after they were put on. The guy who did them was also very careful to inspect for leaks both times he tightened them. I think this is normal. Besides, if it is the same hissing that I am referring to you can only hear it if you listen carefully without the radio on and only at high RPMS. Plus, no heat shields to deflect/absorb sound may also play a slight role in this.

2-2.5k is a little bit louder, IMHO.
