Question on adding sways to stock springs
Question on adding sways to stock springs
Someone mentioned that the comtech sways are very thick and make the stock sways look like toys. (does anyone know the thickness of stock sways vs comtech vs sways in a bmw 5 series?)
With the weight of the CL-S in mind, by putting on the thicker sways, would this not put additional stress on the suspension/frame as now its holding extra weight pressure in a tight turn that it wasn't originally designed for? The new sway bar won't bend much, but something has to give (right?).
Also, in wet weather, doesn't it increase the chance of cornering too fast and losing traction and sliding? My teg was light (about 800 pounds lighter) and I never worried about it sliding.
And someone mentioned that if they are installed by an Acura dealer it will not void the warranty (or extended warranty). Where specifically is this written or stated?
As you can see, still debating the sways with stock springs!

I had no problems in the wet weather we had recently. As for the added stress of the bars, the mounting points seem to be beefy enough to handle it. I may have my bars for sale at the end of the month, $275.00 delivered to your door. I drove with stock suspension for 11 months and the car had good handling for its size and excellent ride quality. Since the bars were installed I have excellent handling and good ride quality. My wife keeps dropping hints that the excellant ride should be restored and I should go looking for a Honda S2000 or AudiTT for my handling fix.

Dan,
I don’t understand why you say the SWAYS reduced the ride quality.
I thought they just reduced body roll.
I could see why someone would say this about SPRINGS, but not SWAYS.
Please explain further as I am looking to get just the SWAYS.

Forget all the nonsence and Just go do it. Minimul side effect and harm. More pros than cons. I love both my sways and springs.

"It looks beefy", but will it hold up over the course of 7+ years and 100,000+ miles, like how long I intend to keep my type-s?
I can see how it would affect the ride. If the car bounces striaght up and down, then the sways would have no effect on the ride, its all purely springs. But if one side bounced first, or about 5% more than the other side, then the sway would stiffen this.
The "type-s" over the "P" has slightly stiffer springs, and it looks like only a very slightly stiffer rear sway bar. I wonder what the size of the sways on the TL-S is? I know my sedan integra had thicker sways than the coups.
Maybe a 21mm rear would be good?
Oh, and I didn't know that NOVAwhiteTypeS was an automotive engineer
(or does he just play one on the internet)

I know exactly how you feel, felt the same way before all the mods but after you get them you won't regret.
Take my word.
Oh the ride will be a little more bumpier but you know if you gain some you loose some. in this case you gain a SHIT load and loose just a tad of ride quaitliy. But I still get compliaments from buddies saying how smooth my ride is.
Hey gotta get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz. later.

Right now I am pricing the SWAYS and considering doing the install with the help of a friend.
I definitely don’t plan on getting SPRINGS because I need the ground clearance for lousy PA/NJ roads and I need the ability to go through DEEP SNOW in the winter.
As a side note, IF/WHEN an UNDER BODY SPOILER comes out for our cars, I plan on getting this.
The SPOILER and the SPRINGS in combination would spell trouble for me.
