Question about warped rotors

I think I just warped my rotors again, but I have a question about them. Sometimes when I warp I can feel the brake pedal pulsing and the steering wheel shaking, but then sometimes I don't feel it. Are warped rotors suppose to do this or is something else causing this problem? I get this problem at high speeds where sometimes it shakes and sometimes it doesn't. so my question isn't if its a warped rotor, but is a warped rotor suppose to give u the pulsing sensation at random?

Warped rotors are more noticeable when braking from higher speeds, at least for me when i've had the problem. If your steering wheel is shaking under braking, then it sounds like they are warped,.

it depends on your speed. at low speed braking you don't really feel the pulsing. unless they are seriously warped!

that's the problem for me. after the break in process i babied those brakes soooooooo much! If i knew this was gonna happen I would have just slammed on them all the time, at least i would have gotten some enjoyment out of it.

Mine are warped again too. Second time now.

I'm so fucking over all the bullshit that's gone wrong with this car.

This is definitely my last ACURA!

you warped a set of Brembos? Sounds like a defect to me. I always thought Brembos were made out of better material than the stock rotors. Take them back...

It happens at high speeds because of heat build up.

Hey guys, early last year i had problems with my rotors and brakes but were covered under warranty. If my rotors and brakes were replaced new and I have a 01 cls with 25000 miles on it, will the dealer replace/resurface the rotors and brakes FREE or will i have to PAY for that service? I can't remember because I had my car serviced twice early this year about my rotors and it's happening again but they service was free.

This will be my second time, and I had to truly raise hell to get those pathetic fuckers to replace them.

Talk about a bullshit runaround.

FUCK ACURA!

I bet lexus, mb, bmw, and the other top dealerships out there NEVER give the customers the kind of BULLSHIT that Acura does.

I will be so glad when I sell this piece of shit and then I won't have to take it to Pohanka ever again!

Guess again and just fyi, this is part of owning cars that accelerates decently and using it. My father-in-law just replaced (out of pocket) the front rotors on his SC430 with 30k on the car.

I had to get into a discussion with one of the best BMW dealers in the country (Global Imports in Atlanta) to get them to resurface my wife's rotor at 8k. I then paid to replace them at 25k.

Granted the CL's rotors do get warped easily (not relevant to the see-fu's issue) but at least the dealers fix them without a question.

Some of the issues complained about are relevant to all makes.

I had to raise hell to get them to cover it under warranty. Then they told me it was only good til 50K, after that I gotta pay for'em.

I think I will get better pads and what not just for kicks.

You obviously have never owned those cars. My Infiniti dealer for my Q45 was horrible and eventually went out of business. Replaced the Q with a CPO BMW 540. The BMW dealer and BMW NA were worse than Infiniti. So bad in fact, I threatened them with the CA lemon law and gave them the car back for a full refund after only 90 days of ownership.

I am on my fourth set of stock rotors due to them warping. We'll see how long these latest pair last. The last set didn't even last one day. I have been through hell and back getting Acura to cover them all under warranty, even though I am now at 62K+ miles.

I called Acura Client Services and they stated that there is no fix for this issue. Gee..what a surprise. This car has been out in the field for over 3 years and still no fix. I suspect there won't be one either.

Piss poor rotors on our cars = screwed customers

I drive my car pretty damn hard. And I dunno how you guys are going through rotors so hard.

My first brake job I did after approx 45K, and the second after approx 35K and they are still working just fine.

Perhaps it's the dealership not doing a good job? Driving too hard on them? Do you guys glaze your brakes where you're basically on them so much that they never have adequate time to cool?

My best friend has a CL as well and doesn't have any problems like this. It's just puzzling. Because I bet if EVERY single CL owner was asked about their brakes you'ld probably find there isn't a defect in Acura brakes esp since they had 3 years in the 2nd gen to correct it (brakes are a hell of a lot easier to fix than the tranny problems).

My guess is, it's simply how the car is driven.

After taking my car in to Tischer today, the guy told me that they believe it has more to do with the diameter of the rotors. That they're too small for the car. I dont know much about this so Im just relaying what he said.

Uhm my rotors are warped and the dealer said they wont do anything about it, "they are wear and tear parts" and i only have 29k on my cl-s. I dont get why they dont have an acura wide standard of replacing them or not. Its seems its more about wheather your lucky enough to live in a city with an acura dealership that doesnt have a bunch of douche bags working there.

My service advisor said he has seen brake issues with all kinds of driving habits, so it is not just me.

As soon as they put new rotors on my car and I get it back the problem always surfaces pretty much immediately- I get the brakes heated up in normal stop and go driving and I get the wheel shimmy and pedal pulsation. Believe me, I have been so easy on the brakes after I get it back, hoping it would help. Nope.

I just don't see how rotors can get warped that fast. I am not doing anything abnormal. There has to be something else wrong with either the suspension, steering, brakes, or perhaps engine mounts? What else is there? Rear brakes were just done right after the fronts and that did not change things.

The dealer has had my car many times and the answer they always come back with is front warped rotors. They are either just throwing rotors at the problem, hoping that it will fix itself, or they are really missing something. So much for being experts with all the latest tools and information!

Acura client services is calling me back today. They are now tracking this situation.

Because of the TSB, they MUST honor the warranty and TSB especially if you are having brake problems. If I were you, if you were to write a letter to acura mentioning your problems with that dealership and their failure to properly resolve your issue even though the solution was already made public, they may have something to say to that dealership.

Maybe it's not your brakes then.

Have they checked your alignemnt?

Have your tires been properly balanced?

Are any of your rims bent?

Not sure on those. Nothing obvious to my eyes. I've had inspections over the life of the car and nothing has been reported.

How can I check the engine mounts?

These are the things the dealer should be doing.....going down the list of possible items and confirming if they are the problem or not.

What happens with prolonged driving with warped rotors (lets say 1k-5k miles)? does it screw up the whole brake system? or is there nothing else that it affects?

I don't know how to check motor mounts, sorry.

But you are right, the dealer should be checking all of those things. You may wanna just ask them about those things and see if they did check them. Take a tomato with you in case that after you mention it to them that they find the problem

Your rotors get worse and worse! Eventually it'll get to the point where at ANY speed you try to brake and your steering wheel will shake. Your stopping distance will be longer.

I don't know if it'll damage other components, but all that extra shaking sounds like it could throw off your alignment and cause other issues. But don't quote me on that.

Just went in for oil change with 15,000 miles on this set of brakes and the rotors are warping. Feel it in the steering. They said it is not covered, 12,000 mile warranty.
From my perspective these rotors are inferior to the past cars Ive had. Never had warped rotors in 30 years of driving all kinds of cars. Whether its the parts or the engineering, the quality sucks.
