Q: Headers= better MPG?
Ok i have had the headers on for a week now and just went through my first tank of gas. I hit 343 miles for this tank. Now, i haven't hit that high since i got my intake. Keep in mind that I drove hard this entire week and went to the track last night. Had i driven like a grandma i would've hit 360.
For those people who have headers did you notice a difference in MPG after you had them installed. Also, did you reset your ECU when you installed your headers?? I think my mpg went through the roof because O2 sensors are detecting more air coming through because of the headers and then running lean(prolly because i was running too rich before) to match the air flow. Thus, less fuel consumption and better MPG. Also, My comptech exhaust pipes around the inside of the tip is REAL clean which is kinda odd.
FYI: I had a little help from Nitrotiger and Xenon7 in figuring out my horrible track times and funny MPG increase and the above is the result of our conversation.

Ah hah. Hmmmmm have you been to the track before/after intake-header combo?
Has the increase in MPG lasted?

Headers for increased MPG ??? Headers + install maybe $1500, Sooooo at $1.50 aver. per gal thats 1000 gal.
and you aver. 25 mpg then that makes the start of the break even point after 25k miles. to maybe get 2mpg better. ???? Headers are to expensive for the MPG increases.

Actually it's mostly just the good quality summer gas that's back in the stations now. The oxygenated winter crap is finally gone.
I just got 260 miles in 9.3 gallons. That's 28mpg (27.9). My gauge was just barely under 1/2 tank mark. I usually get around 26mpg.
I wasn't granny driving this week, either.

I average 260-280mi on a tank too. I'm not afraid of the throttle, but its not like I race every car out there or do 120 on the freeway. I think the best I've done is 25 or 26 mpg. 99% highway but there were some hills. OC to Santa Maria an back.

I get crud gas mileage in city and great mileage on the freeway (at high speed).
The headers should help the gas mileage (if you stay off the gas pedal)...

My 90 mile daily commute is 99% highway at 75-80. With ac I get 25-27 mpg. Without ac I get 27-28mpg. I week the wife used the car around town only never over 40 mph, 17 mpg's. I have CAI. The re730's tires made mpg's drop over stock tires.
Don't get me wrong I'm a muscle car fanatic, and rebuild V8's for fun but the most I have ever paid for headers is $120.
I will put on headers but they will have to cost less than $500 and I will install them myself.
Just buying headers for increased MPG doesn't pay off $$$$ unless you drive for over 100k miles.

I don't think anybody said they got headers for the MPG. If you read the post you can see that I was attempting to find out if those people who had headers installed were/are getting better MPG.

If you can get a "good" price and have a very close look at them, you might lean far enough to fall for them.
IMO, they will probably outlast most of the "other" parts on the car... (and I know they will outlast the sludgebox)

Every mod has lowered my gas mileage it seems !! Maybe it's hearing Vtec and headers The most recent bigger wheels and lower stickier tires in particular cost me at least 1 more mpg. But i'm not complaining.
