PureOne PL14459 Oil Filter
Just want to make sure I didn't screw up....I picked up a PureOne PL14459 at Auto Zone today and the price sticker said $5.99 or whatever. It rang up as $2.99 ($3.24 after tax).
Are there two different PureOne filters? Half the boxes at this place were blue and the other half were white. But both said premium. Also, some people are talking about their filters being blue. This one is white.

don't the pureone filters come in a grey box and the regular purolators come in a white/blue box? could've been a mistake. i got a k&n air filter for the cl for 5.90.

There are PureOne and Premium, get the miron one the Colorful box with shiny solid blue filter...
It's 5.99 MSRP usually I pay 4.99... 2.99 is an excellent deal stock on those...

I use the Pure one also, but I only used the 14459 once since its actually smaller than the OEM filters which I was unhappy about.
The 24458 Pure One fits exactly, but has a longer canister, and more filter media. Bigger is better as far as filters go, so if you are looking for an even better filter check out the 24458.

Mr Hyde - I'll look into that filter. Acura isn't going to be bitch about it, will they? Does it fit *exactly*? Are you from NHP?
Thanks for the help guys,

Nashua_Night_Hawk,
U post whore . Yea boy U know whats the best filter out there .
Mr Hyde,
Wholey $hit there is an even bigger filter out there. Bro I am writing this one down.
Hey have u guys ever see the display at the auto parts store with the two filters and the Pure One filter. U know how they have all three filters cut in half to show u the amount of filter media that the Pure One has in comparison. Well I have taken a hack-saw to one of my Pure One oil filter after 3K and the media is not what it looks like in the display. After 3K, the oil filter looks more like filter B, u know the generic filter in the display, not the $hitiest one but the next one. And to think people want to take they oil and oil filters up to and past 5K. Man I would love to have all those people mail me thier oil filters after 5K and let me open those up. Heck I think what I would find would make me rather throw in the generic display oil filter 'A' then have a 5K+ oil filter in my car.

On sale, I can get PL for $4.99 at PepBoys...
You will have better results changing PL TWICE for every M-104 change.

I've recently put this oil filter in my parent's 2003 CLS and the tip of the filter looks perilously close to the suspension bit that's right underneath it. I noticed this think that looks like a U goes up a little with the suspension travel. How much is the danger of this bit hitting the oil filter if I drove over a pothole? Thanks in advance!

*It'd also be nice to add some flow and filtering numbers to these 'studies'. In the end, it doesn't matter so much what the filters look like - it matters what they do, and how effectively they do it. As bad as Fram and Honda USA OEM look, they might do their job just as well (or well enough) as everybody else.

I agree but this is still pretty good,, I use the oversize Amsoil sdf44 ($8.80 my cost) and change it every 5k,,, I change the syn 5w30 every 10k and do oil analysis every 20k,,, so far I haven't had any bad numbers that prove the filter is not doing it's job,, the oil numbers have been good enough to keep it in there longer than 10k,,, but 10k is good enough for me,,,

No not all filters are the same. Fram are by far the worst, foam meadia, it doesn't last past 2K. I've been using Purolator filters for some time. I've used the oversized filter and the standard sized filter all up to 3K. I've taken both apart with a hacksaw. What I've found was that after 3K the filter media in the oversized filter had the same ammount of filter media as the standard sized filter. What I am saying is that filter media shrinks during usage. When I hear that people are going 5K and more, on a standard size filter, it worries me.

I have found one Co. that tests and promotes their filters to last 12.5k miles or 6 months,,, note that is with true synthetic oil,, less if you use dino oil.

If you have any other test data post it here,,shrinking might not be a bad thing I don't know..

Oh I forgot to mention to u guys. If u run with an oversized filter u will lose some oil pressure. If u run with thicker oil u will increase oil pressure. So offset both and run thicker oil and a larger oil filter thats what I am doing now. I went with thicker oil mainly because of Fla's temps and also becasuse I am on N2O.

Juker,
My understanding is that only the blow-by value works at higher PSI than the stock size. This means that it would not open and keep closed unless the oil pressure gets higher.. So filtration is better overall.
EricL, Scalbert,
What do you think?

Puralator is a good filter as far as micron filtration, but I am skeptical about it's flow. People say it is too restrictive for the oil flow. Does anyone have more info on that? Honda OEM might be filtering less, but flow is better.
Probably M1 filter is the way to go.

Where can yo ufind the puralator? I looked at autozone but it wasn't there.
Instead I put on the M1105 and it fit perfectly and also is a lot bigger than my old one.
Did any of you guys notice how much smaller the new Honda Filters are? They're as thin as a soda can now.

I am using now the oversized PL24458 with 5W-30 Mobil One. I am running 5k miles.
Next fill at 50 kmiles would be Castrol Syntec 5W-30 with the same oversized filter 5W-30.
BTW, I checked the control arms clears the oversized filler by at 1"-2".
