Pulley Question

I have the oportunity to buy a set of BNIB Unorthodox racing pulleys for $200. The only thing is that they were originally bought for a 2000 TL-P. Will they fit my 2003 CL-S and is that a good price? Also, how much will installation run me?

That's not a bad price. I'll call around and see what I can do. Will these mess up anything on my car like A/C and stereo?

is the crank pulley the underdriven one? if so you will not want to run it with audio amps. unorthodox makes a lightweight pulley that is standard size for use with audio amps.

40 bucks for just a crank or the whole set?

Either way, thats a damn good deal. I might go see how much they would charge to install my crank.

What is the difference between an underdriven pulley and a standard lightweight pulley? Which one will help you gain more HP?

Underdrive will free up more HP. But it slows down your accesories. Like your alternator, PS pump, and A/C. So if your running alot of audio power, I would stay with stock size pulley. As stated above.

What effect does this "slowing down" have (other than giving HP)? Will it make your A/C not work the same or your alternator not provide the same power ect.?

What he said, I've had mine on for about 7 months and noticed no adverse effect. My Sub amp can pull up to 114 amps, (Not that the stock CLS system will put out that kind of amprage, but the amp will pull it if its there) but I never play it that hard. So I don't have to worry about it. As far as the A/C, it still works fine. If you lived in Vegas and sat in traffic for long periods of time at idle in 120 degree heat you might notice.

Id say go for it!

I would use the lightweight standard size if you are running any kind of stereo or planing on it in the future. You alt will not keep up depending on the amps you are or planning on running. It will be to much current draw for the underdrive pullys.

Good info...wasn't aware of the possible issue with the underdrive pulley.

That's important to know. Thanks everybody.

If your going huge on a system, then I'd be worried. But if you staying moderate, I would not even worry about it. You can always add capacitors if its a concern. I'm running a JBL BP 1200.1 (No Lightwieght on amp draw) and its just fine.

Capacitors = meh.

Don't waste your money, buy a nice battery up front and a secondary for the rear.

I've just always used at least a one farad cap on anything I've done previous to the CL.

I'd also take any advice chtrcy gives, he's got a buk nasty system, and from what my roomie tells me, is the person to go to for audio.

Cool...I should look into getting one for my CL if I find the right price.

Never saw any pics of his system.

Would upgrading the alternator on my 6mt to an auto be ok to run the underdrive pulley?

if you're concerned, i'd just go with the stock size pulley, you'll still see some gains because it's lighter than stock

if your going to get a stock size, you should pick it up fast because they stopped making them, Excelerate is the only vendor that has em, i helped with a group buy to get UR to make one last batch for us

"The Ultra S crank pulley is a lightweight underdrive crank pulley. It underdrives the accessories 10-20% and requires new belts. The Ultra Sc crank pulley is a lightweight stock size crank pulley, which means that it does not underdrive the accessories and does not require a new belt. If you have a large stereo system (over 600 watts RMS) you will want the Ultra Sc crank pulley. If not, you will want the Ultra S pulley. Average gains are about 7-8 HP. The Ultra Sc will make maybe 1 less hp than the Ultra S pulley."

oh and if you plan to be supercharged you need the stock size
