Prototype Racing Headers?
They can be made if you have the cash. Basically custom ordered. There is a 3rd Gen TL that has them although that 3rd Gen TL is a dedicated race car and by no means a street car any more.
The Comptech headers are less expensive.

Small holes in the front of the hood are for mounting the auxiliary HID Hella lights for night driving (see Car & Driver 25 Hour coverage photo section).
The vented hood has a significant effect on reducing coolant temperature, which allows the engine to run cooler.
The engine is all stock components, just a balanced crank and port matched intake manifold. It does have a cold air intake and a custom header that deletes all 3 cats (from Prototype Racing), into that Comptech cat-back exhaust. That's it.
Any other questions?

Joe at Prototype Racing (prototyperacing.com) said he would consider making more if there was demand. However, it is an off road peice only because it eliminates the cats.
There are 2 flow restrictions in the stock setup, one is bend before the close coupled cats which is part of the cat body itself, the other is the joint between the 2 banks under the engine. Some street legal gains could be made just from replacing that joint and retaining the cats but no one has made one yet and I don't think any layout work has been done.

I know this is not exactly related to the prototype header but anyone with a 3rd Gen TL is only going to be able to get a race header. I was looking at the new TL's the other day and it seems Honda has put a cat right off the front header like they do with the Civic LX, DX.

Any type of header will eliminate the cats (3 of them)
Please be good enough to accept my apology for not updating the website with the latest in the saga of the headers for the Acura CL (2001-2002) and TL (1999-2002) and Type S. I designed them in early '99, right after I did the HKS Turbo Accord, but one thing after another kept them out of production. I've finally found a solution to that problem, and his name is Edmun Laurea. We are in negotiations now on the sale of the header design, and all my production tooling. He has the capital resources to mass produce the headers, something I could never have done, so in the long run this will work out better for everyone who wants them. His target price is lower than I had anticipated, which should make more people happy as well. At this point, I'm pretty much out of the loop as far as decision making goes, so I suggest you contact him directly. E-mail: edmun@attbi.com.

just find something else. Those things will never be produced, by them at least.
