Problems With Road Lamps

I have been having a probelm with my driver's side road lamp. It has been flickering in and out and rarly stays on constantly for more than 5min. It is pretty embarassing b/c it looks like I have my turn siganl on. lol I have changed them to the polrag led bulbs', b/c the lamp constanly blew out the stock bulbs. I unhooked and reconnected the bulb to check for a shortage or something, but it was to no avail. Has anyone experienced or defeated a similar problem?

Could just be a bad filament in the bulb.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the wires. You'll probably have to run along the length of the wires to find a cut or loose connection somewhere.

I've been having this same problem too. I turned them on and pushed my hand up behind the plastic guard under the bumper and jiggled the wire going to the light. This made it turn on, but when I let go of the wire it went back out. I don't know if the bulb just isn't seated properly or if the wire harness is maybe busted. Either way I notice in the reflection of a car's bumper ahead of me in traffic at night that it goes on and off as I go over bumps. It's too cold out now to lay down on the ground and troubleshoot the problem!

hey just switch the bulbs from front left and right and then that side of your car will be fine! (if wires short they will blow a fuse, this means the hot side touched the grounded side). if they come on and off , this means you have a opened circuit, like in a bad connection @ almost anywhere in there circuit!! knock yourself out ! and just think about it...

It is pretty cold here also and I dont wanna lay on the ground looking for an open circuit, so is there a repalcement fog lamp or road lamp that you guys have used. Then I could just run the power or whatever from another source and not have to worry about the flicker. I have read that the lens cover is thin and melts, is there an aftermarket or factory replaement for that slot?
thanks

I got tired of fooling with the 'road lamps'. so I decided to take out the bulbs completly. Maybe I'll get some 03 inserts one of these days.

Will the 03 insert fit directly into the 01 slot? and Mantis by inserts do you mean new lamps or like a vent/ scoop?

Talking Dumb road lamps

I'm having a similar problem, and my driver's side road lamp works some days then doesn't other days. I thought I'd figure out how to get the bulb out so I could get a replacement, but I wasn't having too much luck locating then prying off those dumb clips. I broke off a piece of one of the clips, and started sobbing.

I can't crawl under the car yet either, with the soggy ground below, so I was attempting this while crouched beside the bumper. It ain't happenin for this wannabe mechanic! It must be easier than this to remove this stupid bulb! Any one have any suggestions, to include what is the part or model number and price for that stupid bulb? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Mantis, you mentioned that you had removed the bulbs completely--I may do the same if I can figure out how I can get that stupid access panel off! Those bulbs are only 5 watts with a whopping 6 candlepower, so they can't be adding too much to the coverage area, and will likely not even be missed if removed.

What's involved in going for a '03 no road lamp look anyway?!?!

I had the same thing, The light would go out and I would kick the bumper and the light would come on. I just look out the lamp, took the bulb off and pushed the metal contact thingys closer and the problem hasnt reoccured since.

Yeah! What he said! Can they be removed easily? And would it be reversible?
