Problems programming TLS remote! Help!

I printed out the instructions on Chod's FAQ. It says turn the ignition switch on to the 3rd position but it says you do not have to start the car. But the 3 position can only be reached when the car is started. Am i doing something wrong? And where exactly do you have to aim to hit the REC.? It also says to turn the ignition switch on and off, does that require going from I and II position? I tried this several times and whenever i had to aim the remote and hit the unlock button (i am supposed to hear the locks click) nothin happens. Am i just an idiot or is this a pain in the ass. Can someone help a brotha out?

That is a typo.
You turn the switch to II, not III. It's the accessory position, where you haven't started the car, but it turns on the lights/nav/cd player etc.

You can aim the fob at the steering wheel.

The 'off' position is the position where you would turn the ignition to to pull out your key.

One note I also forgot is you have to wait 1-4 seconds every time you do something.

So turn ignition to II, (pause), push button, (pause), car off (pause), push lock (pause) etc etc etc

There are the steps made a bit more explicit:
