Problems with my 2003 six speed

i dont know what is going on but something weird started happening today, when i am in third or fourth gear at give or take 3000rpms and i punch the throttle the rpms jump up about a grand then hang, then they go down about 3 to 5 hundred rpms then climb again normally. i just had my first oil change at 6500+ miles two days ago and swiched to mobile one synthetic, they put in 5w 30 instead of 5w 20 i dont know if that could be it. i also got new mufflers put on about a week ago again i dont know if that could be part of the problem either. if i take it in to the dealership will they say anything about the oil or exhaust being the cause of the problem? any ideas what it could be? maybe bad gas?

Sounds like your clutch is slipping ...

That's why he said it sounds like its slipping. When your foot is nowhere near the clutch, the speed and tach should be locked together. One's not going to move without the other. Unless your clutch is slipping and letting the engine spin up and not transferring the power to the tranny.

Yup, looks like the clutch is slipping. When a clutch slips, the revs climb when you hit the gas in any gear (foot off clutch) but the car does NOT accelerate at all. Did you happen to burn out the clutch prior to noticing this (you can definitely tell because it'll smell real bad), perhaps not letting enough clutch out when climbing a steep hill? Try to allow the clutch to readjust itself (Honda clutches are self-adjusting) by driving in city traffic on flat roads for like 15-30 min. or so doing normal around-town shifting. Then go back on the freeway and hold it at 65mph in 6th. Then give it 1/4 to 1/2 throttle (keep foot off clutch). If the revs climb again without an increase in speed > 65mph, you definitely have clutch slippage that the dealer should check out.
