Is the price worth it?

I'm on a never-ending quest to find a 6MT CLs that hasn't been beat to oblivion. I would like opinion on one. I will not say where it's listed or provide any links as to not violate community standards. I will say that the color is silver and it is surreal how clean it is (no scratches anywhere, interior mint, etc). It's also bone stock.

Seller's description:
Rare, 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type S with 6 speed manual transmission and factory Navi (one of 820 built)
Silver exterior/Ebony (black) perforated leather interior
132,000 miles
Completely dealer maintained with all receipts available. Premium fuel always used. No aftermarket customizations.
OEM installations include engine block heater, all weather floor mats, nose mask, splash guards, and latest (2013) Navigation DVD
All major maintenance completed with dealer according to owners manual including:
• Timing Belt and Valve Adjustment at 105,000 miles
• New clutch installed at 85,000
• Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires installed at 85,000
Love this car and it's a pleasure to drive and row through the gears, but it simply isn't driven enough! This car needs a driver...
End of quote.

He is asking for a WHOOPING $10000 and will not budge, not even a dime. Mint one on KBB is $4200 but that doesn't account for rarity. He said he's owned it for 12 years and bought it in 2005 as a certified pre-owned.

Would any of you ever pay $10K?
Thanks

It took all but one second for google to find this unicorn. With that said, he just listed the thing so give it a week or two and see if her 'lightens up' a little. It's a nice car at that mileage interval, for sure, IMHO that's where most of his 'confidence' comes from along with the consistent dealer maintenance records. He did a good job, good for him and has a right to see what the market will demand. I wouldn't pay anymore then $6500-7500.

I knew that it wouldn't be hard to find it but I still didn't want to advertise here. I will see if he's willing to meet soon. I'm thinking somewhere between what you said ($7000) would be fair. I can't justify $10000, there's just no way. But for $7000, given the love and care that the owner put in, I think it's worth it.

Looked at another way, even if he were to bring this 16 year old CLS6 to his trusty Acura dealer at the end of the month, and, say, wanted to trade it on a LOADED 2018 MDX, the sales manager, perhaps, would get close to the 10K he wants to move an almost $50K SUV; however, they would still have the issue of selling the CLS for 10K+ to work the numbers positive on the trade. Depends on how 'hard-up' the dealer is to work a deal. If you feel good at $7K and he bites, after a short 'stew period' on the sales website, then you've found that long term 'keeper' you've been looking for.

Good Luck!

I'm thinking he will be hard pressed to get $10G. However, he does have a rare, pampered, dealer maintained car, in excellent condition. Maybe, if I found $10G, that i didn't know I had, and didn't really need, than i might be tempted. What I would do, is ask him to visit the nearest Carmax dealer, and have Carmax make an offer on the car. Carmax is probably one of the more realistic places to get the (Actual Cash Value) of a vehicle. Once that value is established, you could start your negotiation with him, from there, based on the rarity, condition, and true market value of his car. In my opinion, if the car is as advertised, it may be worth $7G, to someone. The trick is finding that anal fan in search of such a car. I might add, if this car had 32K instead of 132K, that fact alone would change the entire dynamic. How much is a technically obsolete car, requiring premium fuel, with 132K, regardless of condition and history worth? As much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Damn... I am a newbie here. Just joined because I picked up a 3.2 CL Type S with the 6 speed. I am almost afraid to say what I gave for it...

2003 with 93k miles. New (generic Primewell tires - ugh, need to get something better on there), mild cat back exhaust, K&N air filter, needs ball joints (included but not installed) and will need timing belt eventually. Red paint in great condition, no peeling or clear coat spots, no road rash on the wheels, could use a polish of the headlight covers.

I gave $2000 cash and an average AR15 in trade. I guess I did pretty good.

It's already long overdue for a timing belt. Time, not miles, are most wearing on a belt. It's 105k miles OR 7 years and that car is far past the 7 year mark. Rubber breaks down with age. It'd replace that thing now rather than waiting. If it snaps, you can kiss your engine goodbye.

Good info, thank you. Guess I will look into getting a belt and water pump and seeing how hard it is to change out. I do most of my own work, but access room might make it worth to pay someone else this time. Deskbound aircraft mechanic here and now just tell others what to do.

I test drove it tonight. Oh my, what a gem. Looks stunning in and out, drives like a dream. It has same quirks that my CLS6 had, obviously production pains on all of them but nothing jumping out of the ordinary. The owner is a great guy, had it for 12 years, stacks of dealer receipts. There will never be a better CLS6 on the market. With each passing day they get older. There is one problem - I can't justify $10000. I can't even justify $7000 for it. I wouldn't pay over $4000. I'm not going to offer it as to not insult the seller. I will respectfully tell him I am not interested. If I was him, I would not sell it. I regret selling mine 3 years ago. He'll regret it too after a certain period of time has passed.

I noticed it is in the rust belt. Any hint of rust? did you check undercarriage?

I did not. I do know that 2nd Gen TL and CL had a notoriously bad sub-frame rusting out due to the AC condenser dripping directly on it. I would have checked that if I was going to make an offer but I am not going to. I don't want to offend the seller so I'll pass on it. I don't think he'll find a buyer for over $7000. Even that I would be amazed.
