price check on a type S

okay first off i wanna say sorry I haven't been hanging around the site like was. Just i've been busy.
my trusty good Accord with 190 Thousand on her is starting to getting up there (as far as miles) and I got a good chunk of change saved up for my next ride. now I've always liked the CL/TL type S cause it's got all the "cool features" and plus has plenty of power. Now I'm gonna tell you guys a secrect (Dad works for Honda so he occassionally tells me this stuff) he said when they redo the Odysee(in like 04) they will redo all the V-6s(including CL,TL,V-6 accord) this is part of the reason why i'm waiting cause I think they'll be a DOHC V-6(dad said they got the machines to machine the heads for DOHC on V-6s)
now moving onto my main point. when I come out of college I'm probably gonna a new ride(cause my good old Accord will be shot ) but I'm gonna be on a limited budget.(I know your saying get a V-6 Accord but everyone has those around here plus the CL type S will smoke a stock V-6 Accord. but I don't wanna get a Used CL type S(every car my family bought has had something wrong with it and every new car we got was fine)
now i'm not going to get Navigation on the CL to save a little money plus I know most roads around here.
now here's the debate - 6 speed type S no navi or regular type S no navi. I can drive a 5 speed alright.(i'm not the greatest but i do okay) now the question is is there a big power difference between the 6 speed and automatic.
I figured for CL type S automatic no navi with floor mats, splash guards, moonvisor spoiler and rear spoiler.
for about 26-27 grand(without tax title and other BS)
same car with a 6-speed
for about 28-29 grand(without tax title and other BS)
basically I'm trying to get the maximum "fun car" for as little cash as possible(but not "stripping the car")

If you're not the greatest stick driver, or it's just not that important than save the $$ and get the auto. So far the speed difference is negligible.

Hmmm, Acura sez 6-speed 0.5 second faster in 0-60 than auto. Anecdotally, there are stories of 6-speeds hanging with mod'ed (intake, headers, exhuast) auto's.

But whatever--the 6-speeds feels more powerful and responsive. The bottom line is that even if the times are the same in the quarter mile, the stick is just gonna kick the auto's butt in real driving (turns and stuff) because it's more responsive. But even if it didn't, it would still be worth it for the feel. You have to like driving a stick, 'course.

Sorry to be contrarian, but I think your statement is a bunch of crap. The LSD in the 6MT may have somewhat of an advantage over the VSA in the 5AT, but a 5AT driver who knows how to drive twisties will certainly whoop a 6MT with an average driver.

I've been talking to some friends(they are kind of street racers also) and my dad knows how i drive and they are pretty much split on the Automatic and 6-speed. My one friend with a 88 or 89 S-10 with 350(he has a Automatic in his s-10) but he says go 6 speed. Dad and my other friend says goes Automatic. I'm probably gonna go to the Local Acura dealer this fall(cause i'm pretty busy over summer) and test drive a 6 speed and a Auto to see what fits me better.

By the time you get to the dealer, there won't be any 6 speeds left!! They are only making 2700, and what is out now is all that is left. I think if I could do it over, I would get the 6 speed. I only drive my CL on the weekend now, so 6 speed would be no big deal. When I bought my car, it was my daily driver, so automatic was the only way to go!!!!

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DECISION!!!!

Wasn't Honda's decision to stop making the CL happening pretty soon? It seems unlikely we'll get a new DOHC V6 in a CL. I vote for the automatic. In traffic and with a commute a shifter gets old real quick, at least for me. Either way you're looking at a great car for the money.

I'll keep my 5AT simmering in the sweet spot between 2nd and 3rd and run with a 6spd in the twisties any time. No disrespect to stick drivers, just chill with the anti 5AT crap.

Talk about a load of crap. OK, try this one: A skilled driver in a Yugo can outdrive an imbecile with no feet in a 911. Duh.

I never said anything about drivers. I just said that the stick has the edge over the auto.

Well the only way we're gonna find out is to get a 6 speed with a competent driver out there in the twisties with us. Again, i believe that the difference will be negligible if at all. In the twisties we drive with the auto, it's all 2nd and 3rd so the tranny is always in the sweet spot.
