Pre-emptive transmission exchange

Has anyone considered, or made the actual move to choose to have the newer (upgraded) transmission installed before failure occurs? Since my milage is very low I'm looking at 2009 to try to make a deal with my Acura dealer to install one - even if my tranny is still operational. I've considered another car, but would lose all my investment in upgrades - tires, wheels, suspension and brakes - if I tried to sell or trade-in the car. The car performs well, looks fine and is aging gracefully.

It would be hard to get the dealer to put one in before it goes bad. The dealer has to take pictures of the inside and email them to Acura. They look them over and read the notes from the tech. They then decide if the tranny should be replaced or not. Every tranny they replace under warranty costs them alot of money so they don't replace if there aren't any problems yet.

I sure did. Didnt really have a problem, I just told them that it felt like it was grinding at times. Got it replaced in no time.

If you haven't experienced any symptoms, there's no reason to jump to any conclusions that the tranny's going to fail.

Keys Acura of Van Nuys was pretty cool about it. I mean if I can get a brand new transmission at no cost, why not go for it?

You can not get something replaced that is not broke. Some dealers may do it no questions ask if you tell them it's been acting up & they have replaced enough of them to know it may be a problem.(small #)

Other dealers(high #) will flat out refuse until it's dead.

Basically I would agree to paying towards the installation of a replacement tranny when my original is nearing the end of its 7 year, few months warranty. Buying a
new or newer used car would be much more expensive in comparison and our CL's
are, with some exceptions, pretty good vehicles overall. So I'd be investing in the
car for the long-term.
