Power Steering pump bearings shot what to do?

When i had my option pulley installed I had to take it to a local shop because I couldn't get the bolt off. turns out he made the power steering belt too tight and now the bearings are shot. Now the question is what should I do. Go after the shop? buy a new one or fix the existing one?

Had it like this for about half a year now or so. Some ps fluid leaks out so I have to keep topping it off every few weeks. I got a spare ps pump in my garage, its just too cold to work on the car right now

You can buy new bearings and seals for around 20 bucks. Throw it on your work bench and replace them. Its easy.

is it normal for the fluid to get so high in the reservoir that its about to spill out. I was guessing its just the pump not being able to recirculate the fluid. kinda worries me should i just disconnect the p/s belt to keep it from overflowing?

it bounces around in there quite a bit. If your worried take some of the fluid out (keep it above the low level though)

It's usually a sign of a bad pump or a bad rack. By what you're describing, it's probably only your bad pump.

a whining pump is usually due to low fluid.

My car made that noise badly before I bought it and they topped the fluid up and works perfectly..

NOTE*

When i did the underdrive pulley on a dry steer (car not moving) and u crank the wheel you can hear the pwr steering wine a lil since it is UNDERPOWERED.

I am getting overdrive pulleys to fix this eventually

but just to make sure that isn't the problem, think about it ;-)

Guess I'm in a similar boat my PS pump is leaking a bit.. Dealer wants 280 to "reseal" it. Is this what fsttyms1 is talking about being 20 bucks from the dealer?
