possibly trading the CL-s6
So, Ive been getting really bored with the car lately. This is actually my second cl-s in 5 years, so im just getting thinking if i can, then its maybe time to start looking at other cars before this one isnt worth anything.
So, the CLS-6 is a great bang for buck car, even now, but like i said it is getting old, so ive been trying to find other cars that have the same bang for buck value to me.
I was really wanting a '07-08 350z, but at 20-25k, not really in my price range. Then the '08 pontiac g8, still the same 20-25k, so still not really what i can do. Suby sti and evo VIII is 20-25k as well for '06, which is my favorite years of both.
So where does that lead me?
Mazdaspeed 3 or 6, both are 17-20k for an '07-'08, so not bad. Srt-4 neon, but they are sooo flippin ugly, couldnt do it.
Buuut, then there is a 2008-9 Cobalt ss turbo, which in a coupe version and in black, isnt too bad, and real quick, especially if modded(which is very cheap to do).
Remove the ugly ass wing and slam it, and its not bad looking at all. And the performance is 245whp and 255 lbft of torque, and with a 3" exhaust and mild tune, puts it at 280whp and 300lbft torque!!!
Anyways, found one for 13k locally, and trying to trade the cls for it...
Thoughts on this?
this should be interesting....lol

I figured that would be the majority of what people would think.
My car has 135k miles on it and i owe 4900 on it, and was gonna pay it off when i get my taxt return next january, but it may not even be worth it at that point...The car has been wondeful to me with no problems, but it is old and will need major repair in the next year im sure, like axles and clutch and timing belt service, plus it is never gonna be as fast as i want, and thats the major reason for wanting to let it go...

The cobalt is a piece of shit... You are not gonna be happy with chevy budget budget interior... IMO I think the cobalt is just plain ugly... Why don't you get a used sti or an 8th gen accord coupe v6 6mt... That's what did.. I had so many problems with my auto cl that I finally went the accord route...it's like a cl-s with Honda badges... That's at least how I look at it..

No colbalt....pleeeeeaaassseee!
STi or Evo always a great choice, but are pricey. If you are looking to keep you budget more towards the minimum side, why not a 350z (G35 coupe if you need the space) or an S2000?
I see you listed Mazda...just dont get an RX-8, especially 05 or older. I had one and it was a fun car but maintenance and gas was a killer.

I would take that Cobalt over the CL anyday. I don't care about the interior. I want a fun fast car. And it looks like thats what you are looking for also.
What about the GTO's. They are cheaper now. Around 16K for 400Hp RWD.????

WELL, I have a 6spd and have had no problems at all, minor ones at worst, but ive been happy with my car, it is just old and never gonna be as fast as i want it without a lot of money...plus the other cars that was mentioned are really what i want(sti or evo), but are getting old as well, and will be harder to finance 20k for a 5 year old car and my payments would be like $500 per month...not worth it to me, and if im gonna get rid of my car, it wont be for another car almost exactly like mine(accord coupe), but they are nice...
well, i havent decided yet, but im gonna sleep on it and decide by the weekend...

Ugh, do you want to be making car payments forever?
Pay off your CL and enjoy not having a car payment for a while. Hell, once the CL is paid off you cant take that money (you were paying every month on the note) and really make your CL fast. (Turbo etc...) Go nuts.
My CL has 170,000 miles on it and still drives like new. I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon and not having any car payments to worry about for the past couple of years has been great.
You have a CL6... That car will run for 300,000miles+ Easy. I just say a CL6 for sale online with over 300,000 Miles on the clock for about $4000.
Your call, but I have been tempted to buy another car plenty of times and in the end I am so relieved that I don't owe money to anyone for my car. I'm actually enjoying it MORE now.

Keep the car,I'm sure you can build it fast enough for the street.
If you are looking for a really fast car then maybe you should look into a drag car and turn it into a street car.

Who cares what its worth after its paid off?
Either way CARS COST MONEY, you will always lose money on a car no matter how you do it.
Buy another car and make payments for 5-6 more years @~300+ a month (Plus the money you will put into it modifying it) In the End you will be spending $20,000+ For a cobalt (with the cost of mods you will put into it)
OR
Drive a free car and spend $2,000-$3,000 to get it as fast as you are looking to go and still not have to worry about paying a bill every month.
Your call, but one option is smart and one isn't in my opinion.
P.S. Your "worthless" CL will out live any Chevy Cobalt. The CL is just better made and better quality. Especially with the 6 speed tranny.
Good Luck.

well, like the cobalt, it runs a 13.6-14.0 stock. With exhaust and tune, people are running 12.8-13.2 easily!!!...That is plenty quick for me right now, and cheap to do it, and my car payments would be the same, obviously just longer...do i love the luxury of my car? yes i do, and the cobalt ss is a basic 2dr car, but its really new and faster than my car will ever be, so thats why im considering it...
i enjoy going to the track, but really need a d.d. that i can go have fun with sometimes at the track like im doing now...

i agree with you and loved not having a car payment in the past, and would within the year have this one payed off as well; but in a year, this car, even if i did a 3.5 swap and supercharger, will not be worth crap @ 9 years old, and thats after spending 3-4k to make it fast..dunno, its a hard decision, but we will see tomorrow what i do...

Aaron - just save up and get what you want in a few years. Theres no reason putting yourself in debt further just to get a "faster" car now (and I use that term loosely) when you know damn well youre still not going to be happy with it because its FWD.
BTW - Running 12.8s in a FWD is not exactly easy.

not having car payments is the best thing. You can actually save up and buy things cash, which is what everyone should do. All cars depreciate and you made a good choice buying another CL6.

Also if you want a DD that you can take to the strip every now and then. then go with the GTO. If you want a fun car for the strip and run through windy roads get the Cobalt. If I got a Cobalt it would be for the fun factor. So far I have not seen any reliability issues with it. But then again I really have not gone looking for them.
I did race a buddy with a Sky RedLine (Same engine as the Cobalt SS/TC) and he absolutly killed me. It was rediculous.
I think the biggest problem people here have with the Cobalt is that it is not a Acura.
If you are bored with your CLS then dump it. So what if you have another car payment. Its your money and if you want something funner then go out and find what you want and get it. Make your self happy.

Just keep it.... No car payments FTW!! I've thought about buying a different car too then I see how much I would have to pay every month for the next 5 years and than I say screw that! Theres no sense for me to get rid of a perfectly good mechanically sound car just to have a car payment. Especially if your gonna get rid of it for a Cobalt! Im not even gonna get into that because I despise GM vehicles so much.

well, thanks guys for all of your input so far. I went and took a look at it today and the car is actually decent, its def. mint condition and quick than my car, but def far from as nice on the inside, which is a downer, but still okay....its just so much lighter than our cars and i can see why it would respond to simple mods so well, because it is lightweight, torquey and turbo...
the gto is a great car and would love to get a v8 monster like that, but gas in that heavy ass car is insane, like 14-16mpg at best..
still thinking on it..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30UxICiLlss
with just exhaust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxBunKX5DsI
gets 22-28mpg in town and 30+ highway
this car would be for fun factor and newness alone if i got it...
Still 60-40 in staying in the CLS6 though

Ultimately though, I agree with the second paragraph. If you want it, get it. But if you have to come on here and ask us if you should do it, that tells me you arent 100% on it. If you arent 100%, dont do it.

Keep it! In this bad economy, and the continuing rise of the gas. Keep the CL, you will not find one in a reasonable price range car that compares to the CL. Pay it off, or hustle harder to get the things you want to get done to it.

That is another car (in your video) to consider if you really want a bad ass car that gets good gas milage.
2002-2004 Corvette Z06. They shit and get. You could still get 22+ mpg. With sub 5 second 0-60 mph. Lightweight, LSD ,RWD 405 HP, almost perfect balance. Can be had for under 20k with 75K+ miles. No biggie for the LS6 under the hood.
Or you can look for a 2001 Z06 with the LS1 (I think) with 385 HP and still a sub 5 sec 0-60.
MazdaSpeed 3 is a nice little runner too. Mod friendly.
I have a co-worker with a MazdaSpeed Protege the little 4 door car. Light as heck and fun as anything I've been in. Modded of course.
Just thinking out loud.

Weird
-1 for the cobalt. An '08 Cobalt is going out to pasture before an '03 CLS6 .
I was raised on muscle cars, and when my dad went to work for Honda, even he could't deny that his 35+ years thinking it had to American to be correct was just plain wrong. Now he tells me about how he works on 200,000+ Hondas all day versus the milestone event it was when he worked at Ford, Dodge, Ect.
The reason people are telling you to keep the Acura is that it is an Acura.
Think about it Luxury vs. Economy. Yes you will go fast in the Slowbalt. But for how long? Chevys sure as hell don't see 200,000+ often, and a Chevy under boost? No thanks. You say you wouldn't care about the downgrade in interior now, but hell when the leather power seats and automatic mirrors and memory seats and heated seats and Bose sound system and all the other amenities you just take for granted now are gone, you WILL notice.
Any Cobalt SS that pushed 12.9 down a track isn't going to be a reasonable daily driver. First rain you'll be fighting not to put it into a guard rail.
Plus seriously, Cobalts are the new Neon, Cavalier, Focus. even if it effing balls to the walls, Grandma Chase and Betty Johnson and Steven Taylor that all live on your street HAVE THE SAME CAR.
Get what I mean?
That being said, I'm not saying it has to be a CL.
It could be a lot of other things. Most of which wouldn't be a leap from Japanese Luxury to American Economy. There is a large chance you'll regret it in the long run.
+1 for MazdaSpeed3 though. My buddy just bought an '11 off the lot and that thing is mega fun.

The car you should be looking at is a WRX!
There are several cars that I want to get, but I don't want any car payment. I paid off my cl 2years ago. I was really happy when I paid off cl. I can save those money or spend for something else. That's why i bought sc!
and I still love my cl.
