Possibly looking into a Hummer?
I am looking into buying a truck. I first looked at a 2002 Cadillac Escalade and i wasn't impressed at all. A good friend of mine suggested I look into a Hummer. I know they are badass trucks but i still have some doubts cause of how big it is. Do you guys think it would be worth looking into? Has anyone ever driven one or been in one? I hear they have a cheesy interior, but all the ballas have Hummers

I have driven one for about a week. It's big, & bad, but very loud, noisy, & uncomfortable. The interior is very cheap looking, but it makes do. For such a big truck, it only fits 4 people, & has very little space inside for anything. It's more of a statis thing, then useful. It is slow, so be prepared for that. I had a hard time getting on HW's. Once at speed, it's not too bad. But don't ecpect to move around slow cars that fast. It's not bad to drive though. It's very easy, & feels much smaller. Around local streets, it does get loud. You really hear the engine, & tire noise. Wind noise isn't that bad though. I have been in worse cars. All in all it's not a bad truck, but it's just not practial IMHO. I am looking into getting a Military one for off road use only.

The H1's are overpriced POS.....great offroad obviously, but they have lots of technical problems (its known). Plus they start at like $65k for a new one and easily go to $80-$90k.
H2's (the Suburban in disguise) will be out soon, reliability shouldn't be an issue- but I would wait a year after introduction. Its $50k MSRP should prevent it from being the PT Cruiser of 2002-03.

I've driven one before. I agree with JasonT, this is not at all practical for driving around town.
I had the fortunate experience of driving it around out in the middle of nowhere in Utah. By far the greatest offroading machine hands down. Driving through creeks, straight up hills, sideways, and running over crap was a hell of a lot of fun and easy. Of course the one i drove was $150,000 with all the offroading options. Plus the owner said he had already spent $50k in repairs on the thing in just 2 years. That's a lot of money you probably do not have.

----Very Long H1 Story----
I drove a friends h1 on a havasu trip a few years back and we had a blast with it. We also had a chance to put it through its paces.
First of all, the interior sucks and its loud a noisy, but if you are buying it to go offroad none of that matters. People who get them as status symbols and keep them on the streets are making a mistake because it is just nasty inside.
The highway trip out was fun but we would get it up to between 85 and 90 mph and that was it. No more speed was coming. However, about a third of the way to our destination we picked up the boat and hooked it up. Then came the interesting highway part. . . while towing a boat we got it to between 85 and 90 mph and that was it. It performed the exact same with or without the boat and it was like the boat wasn't even there. This was not a big boat by any means but it was a 28 foot open-bow so it wasn't like a little bass boat either. Even on grades it was like there was no change in top speed or acceleration. Then we got a ticket for towing a boat in the fast lane, which sucked, but whatever.
When we got there we put the boat in the water and did our thing for the next 2 days. On the third day we were bored so we took it to a dry river bed and used a natural mound of sand in the river bed to get air. I wasn't at the scene for that one but I saw photographs afterwards; I have no idea if the landings were rough but I'm pretty sure that the suspension got fully compressed because when we got home the owner took it in for warranty service and was denied because the dealer said the car has been abused. I didn't get it but supposedly there was evidence that the individual coils had banged into each other during a rough landing.
So back to the lake....then a wind storm came and everyones boats were basically capsized. We got ours out of the water but we spent the rest of the day winching other people's boats right off the beach and onto their trailers. We then did a victory lap by driving the hummer into the lake and driving it parallel to the beach in about 4 feet of water, kicking up a rooster tail, while everyone else packed up their campsites beacuse their boats were screwed.
Final analysis, I thought the truck did some amazing things, but we were sort of in truck disneyland where the good points came out. The downside is that we all lived on balboa island in southern california at the time, and that truck was just the biggest pain in the rear to park, to cruise with, to drive, and to do just about anything but move stuff around. And that's not even getting to the part where the dealer said we "abused" the truck and voided parts of the warranty.
This story is long but condensed so if parts of it make no sense its because I wrote it quickly and left out the details.

Ah..theres nothing like paying 100K for a truckt that cost 50-17$ to fill up the tank, Plus you have to find diesel fuel. It looks like it was meant to be taken apart.....otherwise, built shitty. It is an overpriced jeep....NUF SAID.
PS. who gives a fuck what a "balla" drives.

Forget the hummer get the new range rover. Those things are the king of SUV luxury and they look good. They just got redesigned this year with rear independent suspension and such. Also if not that then look into the mercedes galandawagen( or something). Or better yet, if you want sporty, the new BMW x5is(again or something). It is supposed to be faster than the CL-S. Or a porshe cyanne, but IMO those things are ugly.

That's if you like a balance between looks and speed
For speed (when they come out) test drive a Porsche Cayanne Turbo S. 450 hp estimated. probably a very porsche interior. and more than likely a BIG price tag
And then for "ballas"
you already ruled it out but if you want Balla car go for the 02 Caddy. put 22's on it and trick out the interior and you've got yourself a BALLA car.

CRAZY CAR. why did i say car? because it drives more like a car than anyother SUV i've been in. also its fast. really fast, with that 4.6 litre BMW V8 and the sport suspension its just great. not to mention it's got a BMW nav, 20 inchers STOCK, and a great leather interior. of course you pay for what you get with a 70-80k base price.

Hey you could always get one of those fugly new mini Hummers. You know, the one that looks like someone shrunk a Hummer and then ran it through Martha Stewart's house.
It's like the special ed edition of the Hummer... it look the Ugly and left the Usefulness behind.
