That being said, your statement, in general, may be true.

He mentioned newer Ferraris. Also, said that the Porsche GT3(?) was the best handling street car he has ever driven.

ahhh. He probably just wants one and can't get one, you know, sour grapes. kidding.

Porsche GT3 definitely owns. It was made for the racetrack.

Have you ever run at Gingerman or Road America? I saw you mention it in another thread.

The CGT is just one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Is it worth $440K? Maybe so, maybe not. If you can afford it, then you buy it.

My biggest gripe with the GT40 is, it looks almost IDENTICAL to the original. It's nice to pay homage to the original, but come on, do something a bit more exiting.

If you see a CGT go down the road, you will stop and stare. I don't think you would get that kind of reaction to the GT40. You will get attention, just not the same kind of attention (unless you are at a Ford meet.)

Part of the justification for the inflated price tag is the marquee. When you are Porsche, you can charge whatever you want because there are lots of people who will pay whatever you ask. Same with Ferrari. Ford and the others have to keep their prices "resonable" because not many people would pay that kind of cash for a Ford no matter what the performance.

And remember, Porsche cars are still pretty much handbuilt pieces of machinery. Not the whole car, but a good bit of them are hand built. The GT40? Probably built on a production line of sorts right next to the mustangs...

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread....

Oh, and for the record, the 1972 Ferrari 365GT was the best sounding engine.....nothing compares to that particular V-12. The low grumble you hear from that car is like nothing else.

It is a nice looking car, but its not worth $440k by a long shot (even with all the CF)......the performance is comparable to a $150k car and they are simply building too many of them.

Availability on the CGT is not a problem, there are plenty of dealers still taking orders on them (no markups). While the edition will certainly sell out, buyers aren't flocking.

Leads me to believe that its going to suffer from depreciation, where most memorable super cars don't.

If I had that kind of coin to drop on a car, it wouldn't be on a CGT.

Beltfed, I agree with you. Do I think it's worth $440K? No. The point is, Porsche (or any car company for that matter) can charge whatever they want for a car. The point I am making is that since it's a Porsche, they have decided that $440K is the number.

Even though they are making 1500 examples, chances are you will see them less often than most other cars on the road and it will be a treat when you do get the chance.

And remember, the Enzo is 625K new (and you can't even touch a used one for under $1M), same with the McLaren, and an F50 would cost you anywhere from $650-800K.

You can also look at it this way. The most expensive model next to the GT40 in the ford line is probably about $40-$45. The GT40 is about 3x's as much as next most expensive model.

The most expensive model in the Porsche model line is the GT2, that stickers around $180K. The CGT is about 2.5x's as much as the next closest model in the line. So to me, it just seems relative.
