Polished heat shield
What do you think? If you don't have headers, you could polish the heat shield. I don't know how long they'll stay shiny but it looks better than the crusty one.

I have to get my car smogged and it won't pass the visual with the XS headers. So instead of taking the headers off and putting the stock manifolds on or paying somebody to hook me up, I installed the original heat shield to cover the front header. I got a little carried away cleaning it and ended up using the dirty one. I have a buffing wheel on a bench grinder so it only took about 5 minutes. A dremel would take way too long.
BTW the Paxton is an old Renegade Novi 2k on my 67 Mustang.

I just never understood why people spend money to make their engine pretty? It's already been established that original poster didn't spend any money or major time on this so this isn't directed at him. But in general, 99% of the time no one sees your engine bay. Unless you show your car, but other than that... who cares what it looks like? No one ever sees it. Boggles my mind.

I used to feel the same way, but some people like to show off their toys under the hood

Thanks for the positive commentsto those who gave them.
I haven't gone to get it tested yet but it's passed the sniffer test before. Here in CA, you need a CARB approved header with an EO number like the Comptech or thet won't pass it, even though my XS headers are a copy. With the heat shield on you have to look real close to see the header. The place I take it to doesn't look to hard, just enough to cover their own ass.
It should withstand the heat, headers run cooler and don't retain the heat like the cast iron manifolds. It'll probably get dull and oxidize fast without ant type of sealer or clear coat but as soon as it gets tested it's coming off.
I'm one of those guys that like a clean, pretty engine compartment but I won't spend a lot of money doing it, maybe a lot of time but not money.
