Polarg M6 vs. 19169s side by side (5 pics)

Polarg M6 on the right, 19169 on the left. For me, I immediately noticed how much brighter M6 is when compared to 19169. Took about 5 minutes to switch the bulb on the right side without dismantling anything; probably longer on the left (will do tomorrow). fyi, both are much brighter and much better than stock bulb.

Come on guys, I'm joking, this has already been discussed.... http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003025.html

I'm sure most of us knew this the day we bought the car, have you ever seen a vanity license plate before?

We were talking about bulbs, right?

Just when you thought it was an easy decision... Might want to hold off on buying them for now. PIAA is about to release a new set of bulbs that are "the closest color yet to HID" (their quote). The 19169 equivalent will be the 19172 and it looks like they'll have an 18w equivalent to the Polarg M-6 with the 19224. They're not quite yet available but they're listed on some sites as available for pre-order and on PIAA's site at:

Yeah, the Polarg definitely looks nicer. Any word on a Polarg or a soon to be released PIAA wedge bulb that'll fit our road lamps and that's around 10 watts, instead of 16 or 18.

I'll probably go with the PIAAs for now, until the summer heat shows wether or not the housing on some of your cars can take the extra heat without melting.

I have found that the polargs are capable of lighting the road in front of the car. What a concept for road lamps

Rod: I'm not aware of any 10w wedge style bulbs yet but I'm going to keep looking (I want them also!). As soon as I hear of something, I'll post it here.

Xeypher already has the PIAA 19172's. Does anyone know how he likes them?

I'd bet he has the 19173's (the yellow ones) since the 19172's aren't available yet.

Maybe a dumb question, but, why would you buy the 5 Watt bulbs instead of the 18 Watt bulbs?

I'd think most that went with 5w did so out of concern of the 18w bulb melting the housing. I know that was my reason, especially in Arizona where summers can be consistently above 110 degrees (that alone might melt them -j/k). Others might have been concerned about the extra current draw (albeit small) on the wiring harness. If the 18 watters successfully make it through July, I'll switch.

Come to think of it, the CL-S has already been through a summer… Did anybody in a *hot* region (esp, AZ, NM and TX) have any problems last year with 18w bulbs???

Thanks for the input but it's hard for me to believe that all of these manufacturers would make an 18Watt bulb that would not work in your car. You would have to think they have gone through extensive testing.

Does our manual say anything about maximum wattage??

The 18w bulb was not designed for our car. It's a different bulb design (a 194 vs. stock 168) yet still fits in the wedge socket. The 18w bulb is much larger than the stock 5w so that places it's outer edge closer to the front plastic housing with more than 3 times the stock wattage. That's why there's concern.

Our manual doesn't say anything about max wattage since they want us to stay stock (5w). That leaves it up to trial and error on our part.

Ah Ha.... Thanks TinMan... I appreciate the explanation. I guess someone should do some research to see how much the new plastic and wiring costs to replace.

BTW, I just installed the M6 and they fit through the holes okay. They are about 2.5 times the size of the 169's and 2.5 time brighter than the 169's.

I also noticed that my driving light lense is totally sandblasted by the road sand from this winter. crap crap crap.

I don't know for a fact but it looks like that 19224 is PIAA's answer to Polarg's M-6. That 19225 probably won't fit since the base looks wider than our socket. Even if it did fit, would you feel comfortable with that hot of a bulb in there?

It's daylight savings time and the evenings are still somewhat light when you use your headlights.

After getting another glimpse of the side by side comparison during the twilight hour, I'm almost convinced the 19169 is unacceptably dim compared to Polarg M6 and almost reminds me of the stock bulb.
