A Plug for my FAQ

Okay, I reserve the right to bring this post up to the top on any day that I see people asking questions which I've archived on my FAQ. I'm spending a ton of time on it, so someone read the damn thing already!

(And I don't even have my car yet! BAH! Maybe by some miracle I can get it before the Park Ave meet...)

See my sig for details.
All corrections/comments/questions welcome.
Thanks!

dude that is sweet, many many props ...

note: for Which bulbs are the closest match to the stock HIDS? you mean for the driving lights, may want to clarify ... and you can now use PIAA 19224 which are 18w, and IMHO are closer than the polarg m6.

note2: for There's hair coming out of the holes in the seats? if you complain enough they will actually change the leather with new leather, like my car.

note3: you don't have this, but the "upgraded cupholder" is honda/acura part number: 77237-SOK-A02 -- on newer cl's there are two tabs on the forwards most side of the cup holder hole ... it should snap into there. if your car doesn't have the tab inserts, you can shave or cut the tabs off the new cupholder and it will fit just fine.

Here's one for you (don't know if it will be useful):

How to reset the "Maintanence Required" lamp:

1) Turn the ignition off.
2) press buttons "Select" and "Reset" together and hold them.
3) Do not let go of the buttons and turn the ignition on, but don't start the car.
4) Hold the buttons for 5 - 10 seconds and let go.
5) Turn off the ignition and turn it back on. Light should be gone.

NICE!!! REALLY NICE. I could really tell you've been around for quite some time.

just to add a few tips.

If u get scratched, get factory touch up paint and some LANGKA. (gets rid of blobs)

and when racing your right about turning off vsa, but you should also move the leaver to 1->2-> and d3 instead of SS, to control 1st.

to get better gas mileage get a K&N drop in CAI or Headers,

Highlight quote from FAQ:What is the deal with this paint?
It sucks.
The paint quality is notably worse than the 99 CL's
If you even so much as tap it with a metal object, you'll probably scratch the paint straight through to the metal.
It sucks.
It chips easily. The chips can be avoided if you try to avoid doing anything dramatic with the car - like driving it.
It is easily the #1 complaint of the entire www.acura-cl.com forum.
Have I mentioned that the paint sucks?

If you hold the key in the lock, it unlocks the passenger door?

Then again, I don't think I've ever put my key in the door.

ChodTheWacko, you have to change the question about using Accord springs on 2001 CLs. All the aftermarket springs available for these CLs are either Accord or TL springs. I believe only Intrax makes springs specifically for the 2001 CL, but last time they were brought up everyone said that Intrax springs suck.

i think the comptech springs are actually made for our car. but everything else is accord, and it is okay, just expect the front end especially to be lower than expected since our engine is heavier.

Gto: Put the key in, turn and hold the key. Upon turning the key the driver's side will open, after a second of holding it, the passenger side will unlock also. Just tried it at lunch today....works like a charm.

Though somewhat trepidatious believing faqs chronicled by somebody nicked "Wacko", I must say that Chad you've created one delectable FAQING FAQ!

Great Job!

ps … I just discovered the tidbit about reducing side mirror noise. Not sure if its been tested but maybe if I can get some of that 3M shuggie?

Thanks for the encouragement, guys!
I'm learning a tremendous amount from reading this forum, it's an honor to be able to give something back.

Rod: I've reworded the answer to say that you can, but be warned that since CLs are heavier, the springs may lower more than you intended.

SmoothJyzz: Thanks for the info, I've rewritten the answer a bit

Al Uminum: As of 2/15 I haven't hit a post yet that confirmed the 3m mirror squeak fix. But there's still 3.5 months for me to catch up on

Great work though, didn't even compliment you on it in my first post. It sure makes things easier than doing a search and reading through all the different posts considering all the post whores on the board...hehe

Another idea though, any dyno charts available for the various mods should also be included, including one for a stock CL-S.

damn whackyboy-nice job!!
here's one of my faves for the sportshift, i forgot who actually figured it out tho-and you will probably want to edit my rambling:

if you are above 80MPH or so, you will not be able to downshift into 3rd with the SS (you get the 'flashing 3'). to circumvent this, shift down to 3 and let off the gas pedal for about half a second (practice makes perfect). the 'lockout' is overridden and puts you smack in the VTEC power range--use to slam shift against some unsuspecting fool on the highway that has no clue what the 'type-S' means. have FUN!

Thanks silverESS and prikid: added both things to the FAQ, thanks

Rod: Geez, I never even thought about compiling the dyno pics. I wonder if they are better put in the garage, though?

SmoothJyzz: I lived in ponca city, OK for about 4 years, and will likely go back sometime this summer to visit my high school buds!

Nice FAQ.

I don't know if the "100 Octane" issue is cut-and-dry. I've tested it and I don't know if it is the octane or the gas formulation, but I have done a number of tests and I've gotten consistent power increases.

So, can I prove it -- no. I have no done 6 trials and have come back with 5 positives and 1 negative (the negative was a control, where I only added 2 gallons).

(just my opinions)
