Played with a 5.0 'stang for a minute today.
On the way to the dealer this morning, he was behind me at a light and I took off (didn't squeal tires or even push first gear hard) but I saw him coming up behind me so I floored it and wound out second and most of third and he couldn't gain on me to pass me(three lanes each way).
Then again I doubt he was flooring his car because he probably expected to pass that blue over-priced Honda in front of him just by giving the 5.0 a little gas.
Although I heard him start to really wind it out in what I guess was his second gear.
Bwahaha, So sorry!
It felt good.

.....take them every chance you get! It
takes time for that pig of a V8 to
tach up, so jump on it early, pref. second
in SS no VSA.

LOL, I had VSA on because I didn't plan on it, and I never use SS really. I only find SS useful to drop down a gear to slow descents down hills and such.

Really? I know we can beat a 4.6L GT but I didn't know a 5.0 too. Cool.
Plus hopefully I'll get a Xephyr CAI this weekend so I can challenge those Corvettes and Vipers.

The 5.0 ones will, not the 4.6L ones (except maybe the 2000+ ones with the improved performance.

Don't both of the GT's have similar performance specs? (14.9-15.1 in the 1/4?)
And no, we do not lose off the line to either one (stock).

I'd be very surprised if we beat either one of those Mustangs (old or new style) if they are well driven. My brother had a 5.0 and it was a handful to get off the line efficiently just because of the power it had.
My CL does not push me to the back of the seat like the Mustang did.

So they say. But, my dad's old Oldsmobile had a 454 in it putting out 255 hp and 360 pounds per foot of torque. That thing would jump off the line and though you back in the seat, but I didn't win many races with it when I was 17. Why? Was it the weight? Was it the gearing? Who knows, probably a combination of all of them.
Like I said, I have raced 3 GT Stangs, two 5.0's and one 4.6, beating each. I barely beat the first one (a 5.0), beat the 4.6 by a car length and the third one (a 5.0) by half a car length. I believe both 5.0's were either 89 or 90's.

The 96GT4.6L is actually faster than the 94GT5.0L. First hand experience and car mags will tell you that.
The Stangs you raced that gave you a run were older 5.0's, pre-'93. Those are a bit faster than the 94-98 Stangs by about .1 seconds. They FELT faster, though.
The 99-GT's will smoke a new CLS, stock with two good drivers.
All I'm saying is that the 96-98 4.6 isnt as slow as you think (its just as fast) and that I'd put my money on the Stang 0-60 and forget about 0-100. The CL-S has crappy tires and nobody has come close to matching the times that MT posted (like the TLS, which does it in 6.2 in MT but nobody can achieve that)
oh well, just a bunch of crap. CL-S's are fat and thats that.
I hope I'll be buying a TL-S ni a few months... peace out.
