Pissed about TL coupe........
Pissed about TL coupe........
Is anyone else pissed that Acura doesn't just make a TL coupe? I'm wanting a new coupe with certain features and, when I look in Acura's parts bin, they are all there:
1) 3.5L V-6 with 300hp and 260 torque
2) Short ratio 6-speed
3) SH-AWD
4) Sweet styling of the TL that grows on me more every day
5) Big Navi screens
6) Brembos
7) 18" Wheel/tire packages offered
8) Bodykits available
9) TL nameplate which would certainly hold resale value
I think this is the car that most of us have wanted ever since getting our first CL!
WHERE THE HELL IS IT?
Cut two doors off of the TL, throw in the 3.5L and the SH-AWD and you have a 100% class-leading coupe that would blow the doors off of the G35 AND the 350Z.
Why can't we just have this?
And, with the little MDX coming out next, and likely the NSX after that, when is the slot for the next coupe? The new G35 has a lot of improvements that make it a much nicer car, but the coupe designed above would far exceed the new G35 and likely do so for less money.
Damn.

i really doubt a coupe will be out for this generation. acura will probably shift the focus to the rsx some more. when you have shitty numbers for the cl there is very little faith they will invest into it this time around. i think they will bring back a coupe maybe 4-5 years from now. after they start banking on all the other vehicles and afford r&d for a coupe...

i agree with sidemarker. the potential sale of the cl isn't very high. most people that would buy coupes from acura aren't willing to pay more than the cost of an rsx. hopefully that'll change.

There will definitely be a "TL Coupe" in MY '06 or '07. Also a TSX coupe and drop-top are in the works.

After the CL was discontinued was the same year in which the 350Z, and g35 coupe finally hit the market, and look at how many of those are on the road now.
honestly, i think acura hit the market too early with a "higher" end sports/luxury coupe.
In all honesty, i hope they bring back a higher end acura coupe, but i understand why they'd hesitate because of the CL sales, but that was their own doing.
Seems to me like an RL-based coupe would look extra-bland.
A luxury coupe at that level would have to be independent of the RL--like the SC430 is.
A coupe should be edgy like the TL, not look like an overgrown Accord like the RL.
I would dish out close to 40k for the car I described above--even if it were made in Ohio. The new G35 with its performance tweaks is going to be tipping 39,500 and the a TL coupe like the one above would blow that car away.

about that yet.
I thought the plan was for a $40k coupe, more upscale than the TL with lots of goodies, even the SH-AWD. An Acura coupe would get more attention now that the TL is selling so well so to wait too long may not be as successful.
The next generation BMW 3 series coupe will be out in 18 months, I assume Acura is wanting to compete with that. The G35 coupe is a nice car, but I'd never buy it because of the interior and less features. Seems hard to balance sport and luxury in a 4 passenger coupe, the CL did it best so far IMO.

It didnt seem too hard for them. 4 passenger, just below the lux level of a 7 series, comfortable yet very sporty. Exterior styling is amazing and aggressive. V8, RWD...
and to top it off, have you ever heard the exhaust note!?!?
Yeah--I was just reading in the new car edition of road and track and they mentioned that the new G35 would have about 14 more hp, a limited slip, bigger wheels, more exterior modifications etc and top out at 39,500.
Well the new BMW6 series coupe is about $75k. I guess I should have said. for under $40k. But it has very little interior room and very small back seat. For such a big car that doesn't seem impressive to have no interior room.

i really think the stock 4x4 look hurt the sales

Two years of slush-box only Tranny’s DOOMED the CL’s future.
You can’t compete with BMW, Infiniti, Nissan & others who are offering stick shift from the beginning.
By the time Acura got it right they had alienated too many buyers who had gone elsewhere.
A two door version of the TL won’t do it for me.
Go over to the other section of the Forum and read all about poor paint quality, rattles, squeaks…etc.
Sound familiar ???

i havent heard that many complaints on the new tl
fo sho.... i looked at my car with stock setup... and it did look like a truck on jacks... it was crazy... i am so used to seeing it lowered now that it was crazy to see it on stock suspension...
the g35 and the like are all dropped fairly low and have a very sporty look to them...
acura needs to use nsx styling for its next coupe...i dont mean the exact car... but something that is a bit more sporty... with more aggresive lines...
but i do love my CLS... so i wouldnt buy a new coupe until i was good and ready... i plan on keeping this one anyway...

It'll be interesting to see what the competition has to offer in a few years...
whatever acura/honda does for their next coupe , we can can just pray that they dont put out another FWD RL looking coupe with price 35k+. UNLESS it looks EXTREMLY sexy other wise it still wont sell.
There's always the NSX... Since when does infiniti or nissan(same difference) make a car that can compete with that? Oh yeah.. the skyline is supposed to be coming to the states isn't it? I love the new TL and RL but I think I'm done with Acuras. I had less problems out of my 1992 4 door civic.

NSX is nice and all but it is too expensive for what it is. i could buy a E55 for the price of NSX....

For that much you can get a porsche, i'd have a porsche over an NSX any day, even if it were a base model 911 i'd take that over an NSX.
