Pinstripe Removal
Hey guys, I searched but didnt really come up with anything..
Do you have any suggestions/tips on removing the pinstripes off of my NBP?
Im going for the blacked out look, going to get rid of the excessive chrome on my '01, door handles, window trim, grille, headlights, etc any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Whats up with RDX owners?

You can use a heat gun or hair dryer. I've also seen people use an eraser wheel.

Is the pinstripe painted on or a sticker? If it a sticker than you should be able to heat it up and take it off.
If its painted on you'll have to use some moderate solution that'll break up the pinstripe paint and not the clearcoat, test a spot and see if it works. I had to use a graphiti remover. It did the trick. I would link you the pics but this new azine's search isn't working right.

when I had my TL, there was a pinstripe but i could not remove it because it was painted, then clearcoated on. run your nail across it, if it feels like it has definite edges, you could do the heat gun/peel approach (although with my friends 99 bimmer, we just peeled it without heatgun, came right off, no color difference. but if not, it might be painted on. then with that i would follow zac's advice.

Some one here did a thread on removing a painted one. it came out very well, can't remember if it was 2nd gen CL or TL though and search doesn't seem to be working right now.

mine has a clear on it.
at one point I took my finger nail and picked at it, got some to come off but haven't been able to get any further with it so I just gave up.

^ yeah, urs is a sticker pinstripe.
use a heat gun and DO NOT dig in deep w/ ur finger nail or ur'll ruin the paint. after the sticker is removed, use some alcohol to remove the glue left over, after thats done, buff it all. if u still see the outlines, then do some wetsanding.
pinstipes are usually dealer installed item and its painted.

Thanks, the pinstripe is very subtle. I bought the car used and it was there when I got it. I'll fully admit that I'm not much of a pinstripe guy, but if it's done well it just adds a little character line/edge to a very round car.
Tein SS-P with a minimal drop b/c I run a 235 tire. Any lower and the back will rub over big bumps.

yeah, pinstripes are only worth it on some cars.
dealers put em on to make money on it. Their cost is usually about 20-30% of what ever they charge you on it.
and most of u guys must have notice the window etching that most dealers are doing, its like windows pinstripes, but permenant.
They sell em for $600, and u just wont believe thier cost and i probably wont tell u guys either.
