Pictures of my fried clutch

I picked up my car with my new clutch today from the dealership and all i can say is my car never felt like this before my clutch had to be bad from the start and it was just so different from any other manual i had driven in the past that i didnt notice. the dealership paid for the parts and i had to pay for the labor they said that there was evidince of the clutch being smoked, so acura was not willing to pay for the whole thing, i didnt feel like arguing however they told me if i had brought my car in sooner they probably could have replaced it under warranty but i let it go too far( i had been driving for about a month with noticeable slipping)Original Thread

you can see the dust in the last pic from the clutch being smoked, and you can also see that nothing was left of the clutch and i had worn through to the rivets

:swear2: fuk. I hope you reiterated that when discussing the problem. I would call Acura and make a complaint.

Few weekends ago, I saw some puke transporting a 6-speed max, still had plastic over interior. He was trying to race EVERYBODY on 95. Car smelled awful. He was looking at the people next to him, trying to start a race, more than the traffic in front of him.

Don't think I would ever do a swap with a turbo or manual car. Flat bed please.

JakeCL,

That’s a LOT of damage for only 10,000-miles.
Either something was wrong from the start and you didn’t notice it in time or one of the salesmen taught their 16-year old kid how to drive stick on your car.

200-miles could also be a bunch of “white knuckle” test drives too.

Let’s hope you get 100K out of this one to prove they were wrong.

Can you check the clutch fluid like you would the auto tranny fluid. I know it's not the same,(dot 3 brake fluid I think) but can you check it under the hood, & see or smell if it's burnt?

That is BS. Clutches don't fry in 8k miles. You should escalate your complaint. The ONLY way they would fry is if you just burned the clutch, I.E. you can't drive but you stated this is not the case.

"Goodwill" means they know it's their fault, period.

the do burn and wear excessively if broken in incorrectly.

it personally think that the car had some real hard test-drives along with some agressive mileage during the delivery.

i cant think of anything else, otherwise everyone with a 6-spd would be getting new clutches.

JakeCL,

That sucks. How's the clutch feel now? Is there still a lot of distance in the throw? I bought my 6 sp off the lot with 87 miles on it so I'm not sure how the first 87 miles were treated. I do know the throw is long compared to other clutches. Is yours closer to the floor than the previous clutch?

For reference: The friction point (throw) on the clutch for my sisters RSX-S is up quite a bit higher than that on my dad's C5. Overall travel is shorter on the vette too, but the friction point is drastically different. I would assume that the CL-S has a similar setup, more for a quality ride that for going fast. If you are not generous enough with the slip on the vette, you can end up with a REALLY rough ride. Not to mention breaking the rear end loose, if you go from too much slip to not enought too quickly.

im about to install an aftermarket ACT on my first gen. its reccomended that you take it easy for about 200-300 miles. no high drops, no agressive high RPM shifting.

you cant do anything about the length of the "throw" unless you get a short shift kit, a smaller shift knob, or cut down the shifter itself.
