PIAA Road Lamps - Need help again

Okay, some of you may remember that I had a horrible time getting these stupid road lamps out so that I could install the PIAAs. Well, finally, after I got the right size screw driver, I have been able to get the housing out.

My question now is.....I have the PIAA 19224s (I think thats the number) but they are the 18w bulbs. AFter I "plugged" them into the "socket" and then tried to re install them into the housing.....it barely fit, I almost had to jam it in there. Is that normal??

Also, I turned the lights on for about 20 secs just to see how it looks and the from plastic part on the front of the house heated up immediately!!! Is that normal??

Thanks for the help again guys!!!

Yes its normal, you have to twist and turn slighty to fit the 19224 in, and yes its heats up quickly since its 18w whereas the original ones are 5w. Its all normal just try not to use the xenon as often so the housing will last longer. Use the headlights only when u really need to use it.

Thanks. Are the PIAA 19169 a better choice? In your sig it says that you have the 19224s? Have you had any problems as far as melting the housing with them?

I was using Polarg 5W pink before i got booked by cops, then i changed to 19224. Started using them in Dec and so far so good and no sign of melting yet. The 19169 is the same colour as 19224 but a 5W version therefore not as bright. If you afraid of melting use the 5W bulbs and you'll have a great selection of colours to choose from whereas the 18W are brighter but only the Xtreme white.

"booked by the cops"??? is it illegal to change out the road lamps??

I think I'm going to use the 18ws for now and order the 5 watts to be on the safe side

Well, just a quick prop out to eveyone on this board. I finally have my road lamps installed and all because of the help from everyone here. And they look great too!! I really appreciate some of you who have taken time to answer my "newbie" questions at times.

Thanks again

It is if the color is red or blue.

You can get the 19172's from PIAA. They are 5 watt and they are the Extreme Super White. They are no where near as brite as the 19224's!!! I have the 224's and I LOVE them!!!
