The past to how we got to the CL! Let's Go!

I assume everyone's car in here should be a CL-P, CL-S, CL -S (6 speed) since this is the forum for us, but you never know! Lets share our stories from the past to how we got to the CL!

I wanted to make a thread for EVERYONE! No knowledge required!

1. What was your first car? Did you like it/hate it?

2. From all the cars that you have owned which one did you like the most? why?

3. What is your car now? (I am assuming a CL?)

-My first car was a broke down 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlas. Man I hated the car! It was the car my pops drove for many years and handed it down to me. It had so many problems I wanted to just get rid of it.

Some will maybe remember the game "STREET FIGHTER" where you are able to smash the car. I really wanted to do that!

Second car was a 00' Camry Toyota, and I liked the smoothness of the car! But I had to share it with my sister and sometimes my mother also.

-Now i finally have my own car and its the beautiful CL baby. Got a lot to do and more $$$$ to make for the CL!

Share your story. Love to hear it, since you have listened to mine.

Similar thread like this I posted about members to post pics of cars they owned, and what they have now.

I had a 89 Accord, FULLY modded and for show, then got my 96 Acura TL as a daily driver to keep the Accord garaged, and ended up moddin the TL. I now have my CLS I love it!

Started with a 94 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2D. I couldn't do anything to it even if I wanted to. I kept it really nice till graduation then traded it in when I was looking for a CL. I went to the dealer and said I am looking for a used CL-s around 20 tops. I said I would love to find a 6mt but knew they only came in 03. That was still over my price range. I told her I liked the dark siler color and black interior. I got a call 4 days later saying a 03 Anthracite 6mt with black leather and Navi came in that day. I went in and worked out payments and price and got 2.5k for my cutlass(not too shabby and it wasn't the 3.4 dohc) and walked away with my baby!!!

http://www.myspace.com/20426673 that is the only few pics I have so far. I have rotora's on it and getting icebox soon but probably wont go much further cept maybe a small drop. I love this car!!

I've owned about 15 or so cars, most of 'em cost less than $1000... Only 3 that were more than $1000 were the 94 Tbird I bought in 95 ($12.5K), a 79 VW bus ($4200 in 1998), and my CLS 6spd.

1st Car was a 1976 Pinto station wagon, I love that car the most since it was where I learned to work on cars (replaced the engine w/ one from the junkyard)... It was a great little car.

Pics of some of my cars here:

- jiosih talk about a small world, i received my grandmothers 1989 cutlas supremee, and i just like jiosih hated it. but hey it was my first car.

- then i bought a 2002 GMC sonoma 4.3liter 5 speed, as soon as i got it i threw it to the ground and got some 18's on it. i liked it but i wanted something with more performance. granted for a truck it had some giddy up but not like my current car.

- now i can happily say i own a 2001 CLS. im still figuring out my game plan for all my mods, but prolly just stick to intake, headers, exhaust, lower and rims. the car itself is elegant but very quick. being a noobie i cannot express how much these forums have helped me along.

I started my car owning career with a 1989 Audi 80 (AT) my junior year in HS. It ran pretty well, but not for long. We ended up giving that away to one of my Aunts. Then I drove my sister's 1990 Saab 900 (AT). That was a pretty fun car to drive. Surprisingly, had a lot of spunk to it. When my sister sold it, I bought a 1994 Toyota 4Runner. What a POS that was. Only 11 mpg, and when I took a road trip the engine died on me and had to tow it 3 hours back home cause I didn't have another ride. That's another story though. Ended up selling it shortly after and took over my sister's '99 Civic LX sedan (5MT). I drove that for a few months then traded it in for a '02 NHBP Accord Coupe (4 cyl, 4AT). That was a pretty fun car to have. Put in I/H/E, but in the end wasn't happy with the power (148 hp stock). I sold it this past Sept. when I saw a NHBP '03 CLS 6MT with Navi at the dealership.

Out of all of those cars, the CL-S is way at the top of the list.

I wasn't allowed to buy a car in HS or the first half of college...so time was shared between a 92 GMC pick up (5 speed) and a 71 Firebird (3 speed) (dad bought it new), then a 99 Shit-10 (5 speed), then I FINALLY bought my first car...96 Accord EX 2dr (.....you guessed it...5 speed). It was mostly modded when I bought it then a year later I sold it and bought a new 6 speed black on black CL at the begining of my senior year...then when I needed navi, I traded that one in for a black on black 6sp navi that I have now.....which I finally got lowered.....and I still love my CL...I have test drove many different cars (G35, 350Z, S2000, new TL, old TL, Titan....and always felt like home when I got back in my car)

....if they only could have put the power to the other wheels...I don't think I would ever part with it....but I hope to have many more years of fun in my CL

Whoa there. I didn't get my CL-S til my Senior year in college, and I've had to work to pay for my cars. No help from my parents at all, except for when my mom had me under her insurance in HS, but even then I had to pay for my part too.

I started driving my mom's and dad's cars. They had a Mazda 323 and 626 respectively.

The first car I owned was an 88 Camry V6. Good car, got me around for about 40K miles and then the engine was about to go.

Next, I got a 95 Maxima with about 32K on it. I still have this one. It has about 180K on it now. Still running pretty good.

Got the 01 CL-s back in 2004. Already put on about 36K miles on it. I've always loved the design and look of the CL. And I wanted the ABP since I first saw one. Couldn't pass up the deal I got on it when I bought it.

Next car will probably be a 04+ TL, or a brand new TSX. Probably get one towards the end of the year.

1st - 1991 Jeep Wrangler - Only has 48,000 miles on it. It was in perfect condition. But it wasn't the best car for a lot of driving.

2nd - 1991 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer - The car was cool. Wanted one ever since I saw Jurassic Park. It had alot of stuff on it but the paint was trash....Thanks Ford. Dad still drives it....has over 176,000 miles on it.

3rd - 1998 Ford Explorer XLT - Awsome car...would go anywhere. The only reason I got rid of it was the transmission was going. The dealer claimed I put to big of tires on it. Oh well. 130,000 miles

4th - 2003 Acura CL-P - Didn't even know it came in a type S. New to the brand. Love the car...has been the best so far, even if it is on its 3rd transmission. 58,000 miles

When i was 16 i learned to drive on an '86 Ford Taurus MT-5 (5-speed), an '86 Mustang lx, and an '85 Buick LeSabre (my grandfather gave it to us when he got a new car). The Buick was a beast, but was pretty much my car because my parents didn't like driving it.

After I turned 18, i bought a '97 Ford Contour SE Sport (w/ 2.5V6 and 5 speed). This car was definitely fun to drive and was somewhat of a sleeper because it was a "family car."

After a little fender bender, the contour was history and i bought a '98 Nissan Maxima SE (auto unfortunately). This car was great, but ended up spinning on ice, then wasn't fixed properly...long story short, I ended up in the market for another car and found my '03 CL-S 6 speed and at the time it was the only one in PA/OH/WV that was for sale. It had 49k miles on it and sold for $18,700 (this was April '05). This car is my baby, I can't wait to move out of my parents' place so I can keep her in a garage.

I also bought a '99 Subaru Legacy L in october '05 so I don't have to drive the CL all the time to work (i put on almost 100 miles/day) and so I didn't have to drive my CL in the snow. So far, I've had to replace the timing belt, engine seals, tranny, battery, and alternator, but the car did have 116k miles on it when i picked it up so some didn't surprise me. Hopefully, I won't have to dumpt too much more into it. I really don't anticipate too many problems, however i keep having to dump money into it, i may just have to sell it.

Sorry Greenie! I got you beat by 7 cars, possibly more with a total of about 22. I've had so many they get hard remember.

There are pics of these in the other "similar" thread...

First car was a 1979 Dodge Aspen 4dr. It was originally owned by my great grand mother and yes, she only drove it on Sundays to church and the grocery store. I kid you not! Before she passed at 90-something years old, she gave it to my dad and he used it as his commuter car to work. I think I got the car in '92 when I was 16 and it still only had 48K miles on it. My dad and my uncle replaced a bunch of parts on it, gave it a new paint job (original color of course), and my grandmother re-did all the upolstery (sp?) on the original bench seats with a Mercedes Benze material. She is a helluva crafty lady. The car had a 225 slant 6cyl in it. That car would burry the speedo needle past 85mph all day long in a hurry! In HS, everyone dubbed it as "The Momba". I tinted the windows and threw in a pounding system like every HS kid did back then. I only had it all stolen twice... The Viper alarm went in after that... A couple of memories about the car... the A/C blew so cold that it would frost up the dash in the center while blowing frost out of the vents (great for hot summer FL days!) and piling 8 or 9 people in it before heading off campus to lunch. Good times! Oh, and every time I had to drive it in heavy rain, I'd have to replace the cap and rotor on it after it got wet. I could do it roadside in under 5 mins.

See other thread for all cars in between...

Now I have my CL-S. I was shopping for a Mustang GT/5spd/leather when I came across it. Drove it, fell in love, bought it. Now this site has gotten the best of me and I have been by the modding bug and AZ. i love it though!

88 Bronco II 5 speed
First I ever had. Bought it for $4500 lasted 3 years & 55K miles, blew 1 tranny, & sold it for $4000

94 Lincoln Contential -auto
Bought it from a friend, lasted 2K miles, tranny blew at 2am 300 miles from home only had 70K miles. Friend took it back & refunded

00 300M -auto
Good car had no problems in the 40K miles I put on it. It was a bit too big & this was my first new car ever so it was too much $$. Sold it

94 Explorer Sport -5 speed
2nd car used to haul things Sold that for the CL.

02 CLS -auto
Traded in for 6mt at 17K miles, didn't want more tranny problems

Another 94 Explorer -4 door auto
Bought cause I couldn't pass up the deal. $2800 & 68K miles, Use to haul things, & off road use. It's my 2nd car now.

03 CLS 6mt silver
No problems sold to get out of debt to Minch00

03 CLS 6mt anthracite
Bought another 6mt after I paid my bills used car so it wasn't that much $$ & car paymnets are next to nothing.

Here's mine in order

61 VW Kharman Ghia (stolen)
86 VW GTI (trade in)
89 VW Jetta (sold) POS
96 Nissan 200SX SER (trade in)
96 Chrysler Sebring (trade in)
97 Acura 2.2 CL (sold)
98 BMW 528I (still own)
01 Acura 3.2 CL-S (still own)
I like my current Type S but of all the cars my best total overall experience was with my 97 2.2 CL kinda wish I would've kept it. I my opinion and experience I would never own another VW they are cheaply made even now.

of course my best overall experience so far has to be the M45.

my 71 240z was my favorite. my little se-r had a heart of gold though. it never let me down once in the 100k miles of pure abuse that it recieved. my bronco sucked, but it was fun running over animals and trees. my 300g was the biggest headache by far.
the bmw is a close second for headaches though. my cls has done a pretty good job being a daily driver.

My '91 Jetta GLI 16V was my favorite 2nd to the current CL. The Jetta was always falling apart though. But what a blast to drive. How do you spell :farfignuegen:??

Even if I didn't own it, I probably ALMOST owned it many times over. Either that or I took home all the time. Man, I miss the car business!

And yeah, there might be a lady here I'm kinda fond of...

LOL! what a benefit for you working at a car dealership.
Kinda fond of? hmmm...

o1s, running over animals and trees? lol. Not too good for your car.

clpassen, I agree with you VW is still cheaply made.

mrdeeno, The M45 is a nice/luxurious car! Never drove it! I would love to test drive that.

fuzzy, had some adventure going back and forth with CL's! Welcome back!

I had a 92' 4dr Acura Legend LS, that was my baby, picked her up from a friend for $1500 with 160,000 on the odo, he didnt wanna do some minor work to her so i took and did the work (new radiator, speed sensor and paint the bumper and roof) kept her bone stock except for tints. Drove her until she was 260,000 miles on the odo. Traded it in at Acura for the CL-S which had 20,000 on the odo when i bought her in May '04.

Car i first learned to drive on was a 91 lexus LS400.. Still have it at home, (it's dad's car) though the radiator just took a shit...

Next, drove a 95' 1500 series suburban for a while (also was dad's car) and now its just sitting out front of the house waiting to be sold to someone who needs a big truck..

now, Im driving my very own 1997 2.2CL.. (yea im a 1g'er) Modding it straight to hell and back.. do I plan on selling it anytime soon? Noope..

All coupes.

72 Duster (first car, fast, & fun)
73 Duster (crap)
84 T-Bird (decent)
97 CL 2.2 (great build quality)
01 CL 3.2 (fun, but that tranny? )

Kinda doubt if my next car will be an Acura, unless they come up with a quality CL replacement.

Good car had no problems in the 40K miles I put on it. It was a bit too big & this was my first new car ever so it was too much $$. Sold it
