painting brake calipers
painting brake calipers
my new wheels are comming so I thought it would be a good idea to paint my calipers.
I decided no to red paint.
if I paint them black I would like to write acura on them
I could make a sticker for them and paint over them and then peel it off, leaving the word "acura".
or possibly just the symbol "A"
is this idea stupid
I was thinking of getting them professionally done.
I am scared that Ill do it my self an my brakes will fall off and Ill die J/k

that's not stupid. I would do black with yellow lettering though.
I want to paint my calipers but have not yet. I have the red CL-S and I was thinking about yellow. Like the yellow of this smiley face:
About that anyway.

If your stock, go with Black.. Buy the Caliper paint from the Tirerack.com It is applied with a brush and it come out perfect..NO need to take your brake calipers off... If you do then you need to bleed the brake lines and that is not fun..

painting the calipers is really easy. all you have to do is take off your wheels and tape off the surrounding areas and a few openings of the calipers. Then either get the paint that Smitty mentioned, or at pep boys or other auto stores you can get spray on paint, either will work. Just make sure you clean your calipers well before painting.
The brakes on the CL are nothin pretty to look at, so painting them a bright color just makes them stand out too much....go with black, just looks better overall.

Lots O pictures here from when I did mine......

It’s really funny to look back at these nearly two years later.
The floor in my new garage was still STONE and I had a LAME-ASS floor jack.
But I got the job done.

Well, u can use G2 point though laquer has worked real well for me. I added Lexus stickers to mine.
Now the big brake gurus see it as this:
Stock Calipers should be painted silver or black. Stock calipers painted red is rice. And I am one to think u should do want u want, it does look damn silly when your stock calipers are about big a newborns wang and they are red.
Red brakes derived from the Porche "Big Boy" brakes. Yellow Brakes mean CERAMIC. This is like a $15,000-$20,000 brake package (depends on where u buy).
I like my red calipers. I have Slotted/Drilled Rotors stock size and upgraded Brake pads. I like how it looks but I have gotten drilled for not having a true big brake kit and having red brakes by the other Lexus gods.

If you all are interested in painting your calipers.. What are you gonna do about the crappy looking rusty rotors?? Can the edges (where all the rust is) be painted? I think doing both would look much better.
I used one of shawn s' pics as an example

Do not use spray cans, it looks like crap. G2 is the best and the most durable. I did my CL in black and my girlfriends Sorrento in red. I recommend sanding down the calipers first to give a smooth base. If you choose red, do three coats it's the bomb. Black only needs two. I can't host so if you want pics. pm me your email.

I just want to hit the face with some paint and I don’t want to go through all that masking again.
THose pics of shawns shows why you don't use spray. There's to much labor involved and if the painted surface is not prepped right you get all those little dots you see. Thats due to oils and silicone in the air. That's way they don't use wax in paint shops due to the silicones in the wax. It adheres to stuff and won't let the paint stick properly. With the G2 epoxy paint you don't have to worry about those things.

Those “little dots” are just reflections of light from the flash off of the pitted surface.
The surface was completely black after the fourth coat.
They jut recently started to look a bit worn.
Sorry, My fault! The pics were misleading, because that senario happened to me. I just finished waxing my car, pulled it out of the garage and started to spraypaint something. When I did though there was spots on the surface and it looked just like those pictures. Then I remebered the silicone in the wax and had to start all over again.
