Painted Brake Rotors

Seen a ton of posts on the calipers but nothing on the rotors. I've seen some on eBay with the option for gold or black rotors. Although I'm thinking that for $40 extra they'll eventually wear off. but at least the non-rub areas would retain their color (-dirt buildup). Anyone had experience/opinions (behave) with these?

here's a link to the ones i saw...

$149 for a set of 4?!?!?!

I would be weary of purchasing these...

I just got a set of front cross drilled only rotors for $190 front and $150 rear...

For $150 they say they give military spec grade PLATING...but what about the metal they're using? I personally don't think that the metal they use is any better than stock rotors...

Thats only tells you about the experience with the seller, not how they hold up after 10k miles of "spirited" driving.

I'd be wery as well

I painted the edges of my rotors. I also painted the center section that the wheel hubs don't cover. Looks much nicer seeing black instead of rust. Took maybe 1.5 hours to do 2 coats on each of the 4 rotors. I used caliper paint (brushed)...can't remember the brand.

Just remember, to paint all the way around the rotor you need to have it spin freely. That means when you're working on the rear, the parking brake needs to be off. When on the front, the car needs to be in neutral and the parking brake on!! Block those wheels very well from both sides so it doesn't roll!!

Those rotors dont look like they have the chamfered holes drilled in them, nor does it say they are chamfered. If the rotors arent chamfered they are more likely to crack under heavy braking. Dont get those perticular rotors, they are poor quility and you should always look for drilled rotors that have chamfered holes.

had gold color, zinc plated slotted rotors on 01 for 5 yrs. (wisc. winters) when replaced reciently the zinc coating had completely rusted away. the plating wears off the braking surface almost immediately the remaining surfaces showed progressivly more deterioration after the second full winter.

I am so confused. You're saying that they are good? And you had rotors that lasted 5 years? Is this correct?

post 9, i am pleased with the performance of the slotted / plated rotors considering they see heavily salted roads daily for 6 months each year. they were replaced due to wear , with new e-coated slotted rotors reciently. time will tell if the e-coating performs as well or better.
