overheating and fan noise? Help!

Two issues on my 2001 clp. First when I'm in stop and go traffic, the meter that reads the temperature of my engine goes up and sometimes even reaches the red. Why is this? Another problem is that now when I turn off my engine, the fan continues to make noise for about 5-10 min, or at least I think its the fan, why is this? And what can I do to fix these issues. Any feedback helps. Thanks

Your fan stays on because your car is overheating. Replace your thermostat and see where that takes you. Make sure you also bleed the coolant.

I had the same problem....car was overheating at stoplights....I checked the coolant over flow and it was empty, put some coolant in there and now its fine. Not sure why coolant would "burn up" but I think the dealer was working on my car and i might have lost some and they didn't replace it.

just remove thermostat, or tell any mechanic to remove it and cut out the spring then put it back because you need the core with the rubber gasket, and forget forever about overheating. I did that to my car, and don't have anuy of that problems.

doesn't that cause the coolant to flow constantly causing bad gas mileage, long warm up times, and more engine wear?

long warm ups?? no it warms up faster. Just trust me on this, all of us being told that we must use a thermostat, they even made a mugen thermostat that opens at lower temps, but I went opposite direction and cut the spring out, everything is cool right now.

any mechanic would probably tell you that you can't do it , and give you crap about why not to do it, they know as much as you about this thing(very little). I found that mode from real pro, not your everyday mechanic with a little knowledge about cars.

Make sure the overflow hose is connected to the overflow tank!
