Ordered Denso Iridiums

I think I got a pretty good price. Ordered a set of IK16 for the TL-P and a set of IK22 for the CL-S for $8.50 each and shipping was only $10 for both sets. $112 for two sets delivered

Called Performance Parts Store (800) 246-4567 and spoke with a guy named Rick. He first started out at $9.00 but he said he could sell them to me for $8.50. Everything off of e-bay was more.

Thanks Steve. I'm considering opening up the gap on the IK22's to .044 and being very careful.

They come gapped at .04 I believe. You think 4 thousands is going to make a big difference?

According to Denso's site, IK22's come gapped at .8mm (.0315") and IK16 & IK20's come gapped at 1.1mm (.0433").
http://densoiridium.com/sparkplugspecs.php

That's .3mm or .0118" which is very significant. I may just go with 1.0mm as a compromise to throw a little larger fire in the hole.

But yes you are correct .011 is a significant jump... .004 is nothing

340 on a tank is pretty good. You must have your foot in it most of the time I know what you mean - I paid $2.749 a few days ago.

Your not alone on thinking that they were gapped to .044. Even Comptech wasn't aware that the IK22's were gapped tighter. It took me a while to find this Denso page. When I put in my SC, everyone told me not to regap my plugs. When I checked my IK22's that came with the SC, they were at .032 which made no sense to me. We'll find out if the plugs will fire with a larger gap when under boost.

The regapping instructions on Denso's site don't even make sense. They describe how to regap the plugs but they say not to touch the electrode Doesn't seem possible unless you have a device to measure the gap using light or laser? I'm just going to be very careful.

Kinda of off topic, but how hard is it to swap out the spark plugs on our CL engines? I have done them before on a 4 cyl subie i had a while back.

Without the Supercharger, I think it's a pretty easy process. The rear bank is tight unless you remove the strut bar.

That's the problem. The electrode is way to delicate to gap them the old fashioned way. The iridium center electrode is very thin. Unlike a conventional plug, you cannot gap the plug by sandwiching a gap tool between the electrode and the ground strap, then pushing on the ground strap. The hard electrode will dig into the gap tool, and when you remove the gap tool, you'll break the electrode. Instead, adjust the ground strap by tapping it on a hard surface, or by pulling it gently with a tool; then measure the gap using your gap tool.
