Only one headlight working!

Ok I did some research before posting hoping to shed some light on this. Last night my driver low beam stopped working. Found that fuse for that light was blown (20 amp). Put a new one in and as soon as i turned the lamps on, **pop***, fuse done. I tried switching the relays to see if one went bad. Didn't change anything. The weird part is that when i turn the headlights on the passenger side high beam comes on too, with nothing lit up on driver side. If I unplug the low beam (HID) then everything but the low beam will work on the driver side...?

Everything connected:

Passenger
low beam - on
high beam - on
fog - on

Driver
low beam - off
high beam - on
fog - off

Driver low beam disconnected:

Passenger
low beam - on
high beam - off
fog - on

Driver
low beam - off
high beam - off
fog - on

Its really odd and driving me crazy. I'm thinking i have a ballast thats bad? I ran out of 20 amp fuses so i put a thirty in and the wire to the low beam started smoking! The turns still work so i know its not the mulit-function switch for the turns/headlights. Any help would be awesome...

Is there a short some where?

Find the short, and the fuse should not pop.

Easy fix! Finally had a day off (good thing i drive during the day) and was able to trouble shoot this. Bad ballast, simply. had another kit laying around, swapped out ballasts, all good!

Why would a bad ballast cause problems with the highbeams? My car is down to only 1 highbeam at night. The highbeams are in a weird running light more otherwise, even with the ballast unplugged altogether. Help!

Try swapping bulbs/ballasts from one side to another to make sure its not that. Mine was just a ballast issue.

What kind of ballast did you replace it with ? Mine went out recently and wasn't sure if an aftermarket one would work, and if so which ones. Thanks. Mike

Try installing a relay harness to get the power from the battery. My ballast went out and I just replaced both with the kit from hid extra. I have an extra ballast if you need one . $100 shipped. Mike

I have the same exact problem. My driver's side (left) headlight is out - the fuse pops everytime I turn on the headlights. Both bulbs are good. I switched them to opposite sides, and they both work in the good (right) headlight.

I then took off the front bumper, and plugged the left housing unit into the right lighting harnesses (and vice verse). This basically rolls the ballasts to opposite side.

Result: the passenger's side (right) headlight is out - the fuse pops when I turn the headlights on.

This means I have a bad ballast.

The Dealership wants $475 + tax for a new ballast... Ridiculous... Even the "oem acura parts" website wants $350 for a single ballast... Not worth it (IMO)...

So I ordered an HID kit off ebay for $60 (has both left and right HIDs). It should hopefully come in before the weekend. If so, I plan to put it in on Saturday.
