Oil filters: Anyone using Wix 51344

Not the 51334 but the oversize 51344. Amsoil doesn't carry the 51334 anymore and since I'm a preferred customer, I figure I may as well still buy from them (I need oil too).

I've read a few threads on bobistheoilguy.com and it seems a few people have switched to the oversized Wix.

Anybody using this oversized filter?

Ask Niteqwill, I think he uses the Wix filters, but not sure what size. I wouldn't see why it would be a problem though. I'm using the oversized Mobil 1 filter.

I've used the Honda, Wix and Mobil-1 filters. I had my oil analyzed after running on each one. With the Honda and Mobil-1 filters, my oil analysis indicated really great numbers. After using the Wix, the analysis indicated problems that raised some red flags (First at Blackstone Labs and then at Terry Dyson's. In all cases, I was running Mobil-1 oil.)

NEVERTHELESS, I can't say for sure that the poor numbers were a direct result of using the WIX filter. Terry Dyson couldn't come up with a reason for such poor numbers either. (For those that may wonder, I was using the right Wix filter for the CLS.)

After that experience, I went back to the Mobil-1 filter simply because I didn't want to take any chances from that point on. Still, it's hard to imagine a reason why the Wix filter wouldn't be OK but oil analyses have been normal ever since I switched back to the Mobil-1 filter. If I had any guts, I would try the Wix again, but I don't.

Wow that's crazy. Everything I've read rates Wix, Donaldson, and Amsoil filters as very good.

One thing my service advisor told me to do is to always use HONDA filters. He knew I would have others do the oil change since I live 75 miles from the dealership. I have always followed his advice as he seemed so adamant about that issue and always took good care of my car for warranty and major services.

We've already been over that.

Why does the brand of oil filter matter? Is one more "free flowing" than the next one?

Well I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I order a few of the 51344s and will be testing one out in a few thousand miles. It's the oversized filter to the 51334.
