damn i was hoping they would change the rear.. but sounds more like they are making it like the Is300 rear end!!! Oh thats not gonna be good.
this is what it says in that article....
"The rear view continues to leave a strong visual impression with new rear taillights with clear lenses and revised vehicle badging featuring the new Nissan logo. Dual chrome exhaust tip finishers (SE/GLE) provide the finishing visual touch. "

You fags and your six-speed crap. Go buy an f-body, that's obviously what you want deep inside: the ability to kill most other cars, mod without worrying about your tranny shitting itself, and a stick.

Yeah, there was a thread about the six speed being dropped from the 02 CL. We'll have to wait and see. And for what it's worth, by anyones standards, the Maxima is a fine automobile. Very nice indeed. This one sounds like they made it that much better.

I like, I like. That's gotta cut into their Infinity sales though. One of the reasons I didn't and probably won't go for the Maxima is there's already too many on the road. I just don't want to be another one in the crowd. (although the 2002 is damn sweet!)

the 6 speed is cool... but i still think the Maxima (lookwise) will NEVER compare to the CL-S. both the exterior and interior are so much better on the CL-S.

everyone's point here is well taken. there is no question of the maxima being a quality/performace car. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't done their homework on vehicles of the comparable class. I strongly considered the Maxima but went for the CLS because of the 225 to 260 hp difference. I personally do not like the the outer appearance of the maxima (you are damn right, Soopa, about the boxing glove look) but I find it so difficult to look at the specs on that wild cat and not be impressed.
I didn't expect Nissan to sit idly by and let it's pride and joy fall by the way side.
true that a Nissan will probably cost as much and an Acura, but let's not get too caught up in nomenclature here.

i agree, the max is not a very appealing car based on looks but performance wise it is a top contender. i know i'm gonna get flamed for this but hey, i also think the nissian engines are a lil' better built then honda engines.....just a lil'

I agree...the TS-s (CL-S is really a different category) does look a lot better than the Maxima. My last car was a 91 maxima, and I still like that body style (89-94) better than any one since. Nice specs on the '02, but I'd wait for the body redesign in '03...
Slightly off subject...does anyone know if Nissan's bringing their luxury/performance coupe (forgot the name) into the US?

No offense but on the Maxima:
- No VTEC
- No VSA
- No Sportshift
- Redlines at 6500...
They have to compete with Honda/Acura which is a good thing... but it IS after all... a NISSAN... IMO, so what if it has 260hp... the interior and exterior styling is just uughh... BUTT UGLY... it looks like a luxury-car-wanna-be which is designed cheaply cuz they need to fit it in the budget.. thats SAD... if I'm getting that car, I'd rather get the I35 instead of a Maxima...
I mean .. the MSRP of that car starts around waht? 17k? and sure it'll go up to $30k for the GLE... but at the end it's STILL gonna look like a $17k car.... and Nissan is KNOWN for poor resale value... that would be the reason NOT to get the car.. cuz you'd be loosing soo much money as soon as the car is sold...
I don't dislike Nissan cars.. but it just seems like they're trying TOO hard... and that makes me worry about their reliability from building things cheaply to fit in their budget...
just my 2 cents

FYI:
Styling, yeah some like it, some dont, opinion. Nissan engines are very good, the car will be quicker than the CLS. Better fit and finish than Acura btw, less problems. Resale value is good as well, check kbb.com. GLE will prolly run you about 26 fully loaded while SE will sticker at 30 fully loaded. Maxima will not start at 17 because thats where Altima is, GXE has been taking out of the lineup I believe and replaced by the new Altima. Oh yeah, SE will be available with 6spd, f Slush Shift, and there is traction control available. Yeah, you could get the i35 but thats another 4 Gs for a brand name. Just some thoughts 4 ya.

I talked to a friend of mine who went to some track where they tested some volvo's,vw's as well as the 2002 altima and maxima. Here are the #'s
altima: 0-60,6.2-6.3/1/4m, 14.4to7
maxima:0-60,5.9-6.3/1/4, 14.2to14.5(this maxima had the helical lsd.
are those good #'s for a car with 260 and 240or245 hp. Sorry don't know the torque #'s

I like the new Max. It's more of a performance oriented car rather than our luxo-sport sedan's/coupe's. I mean the new Max's have nice torquey engines, 6 speed manual, optional LSD, etc. And they too have a variable valve timing system. I think Nissan has another winner on their hands.

Nissan has better ads and better music in their ads. Maxima's are very good cars but they are not on the same level as the TL/CL (IMO). My last car was a 98 Black Max SE 5SPD. It was quick but I am not sure if it could win over the CL-S in straight line or not. Apples to apples (Auto to auto) I think CL would win. Unless you have owned one you can explain it. Max is a very light car. It weighed in just over 3200 lbs with 190HP engine. The new 222HP weighs more and no magazine yet has rated the 0-60 any faster. They have all unanimously have said they can't feel the bump in HP. Can anyone contradict this?

I like it, I like it a lot. I had a 2000 Maxima SE, and I loved that car, but I traded it in for the CL-s. I personally thought the Maxima had a more luxerious interior, but I liked the power in the Cl-s, and it was cheaper since I was going to lease the Cls. By the time my lease is over in about 3 years, I'm sure they'll have a 300hp+ Maxima out there, and then I'll get that one. Nissan has always built top quality cars.

I must say, when I read the new spec on the Maxima, I was very close to not getting a TL-S and getting the Nissan. However, once I saw the car, it looked the same as (some slight refreshes), and I'm not too crazy about it. Not that I don't like it, I just like the Acura better. All I know is for 2003 when they redesign this thing it's going to be a beast. I'm trying to convince my dad to get one when his Altima lease is up. That way I can have the best of both worlds!!
