Honda/Acura Mileage Misreporting

"Honda (HMC) is notifying 6 million owners of Hondas and Acuras that they are entitled to warranty extensions and, in some cases, payments because odometers in their vehicles rolled up miles too fast."

Here's the story for those that are unaware.

Anyone gotten the letter in the mail yet about your vehicle? I know my boss got one for his wife's Honda already.

odometer is inaccurate; Honda/Acura Confess and Offers Compensation

I saw with my own eyes a news story on KTLA 5 in Los Angeles, Monday Night, February19, 2007. The Odometers on our Acura and Hondas, are mis-calibrated and they are addressing the problem. It has to do with a good ol boy attorney in Arkansas filed a class action suit. For our cars it is Acuras sold between April 13, 2002 through November 7, 2006. News story said odometers could be off by as much as 4% or more. They stated that on a 100k actual miles, speedo could show 104K+. Major issues regarding leases, warranties, etc.

I must say that when I first got my CL a few months back, I saw a posting from a member wondering about the odometer. He claimed that is old commute to work of just a few miles, went up when he got an Acura. He wasn't crazy afterall.

No, you're probably going to get your warranty extended.

Doubtful. Never stated anything about a recall. Mostly some sort of compensation to be worked out. I love my car, but starting to feel like giving Acura the Big F-U. First they install bunk trannies over a long period of time even though they know full well they are defective. It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for people to get Honda to confess about the tranny issues and take care of it. Now another issue with the Odometer and they let it slide for a long, long time only to finally get caught and sued, etc.

Don't usually hear about such underhanded, subversive activities from Toyota. Maybe that why Toyota will become the #1 car brand in the US within the next 5 yrs. You heard it hear first.

Maybe, but Toyota has been saying that for four years and it took them til 2006 to out sell Ford. GM has a few more years at the top.

I don't even think I have a warranty left. 65K miles on my 03 and I'm the third owner... Do I?

As for being underhanded, I never saw any corporation do anything "honest" that didn't also save them money in the long run. Fucking Jerks!

Curious about that date of sale having to be after April 13, 2002. My '02 CL-S was originally sold on February 26th. Now what should come in the mail today but a letter from Acura.

"Automatic Transmission Warranty Extension"

They bumped it from 7 years/160,000 km's to 7 years, 8 months and tacked on 15,000 km's which works out to about a 9 1/2 % add on. This is the second extension, the first bump was from the original 5 year/ 100,000 K.

No mention of this having anything to do with an over-reading odometer.
