Dyno may come as early as this Wendesday.. Just if I can confirm the installation/dyno bookings....

BTW, Today, My CLS will have its CAI filtered cleaned and the Mobil-1 SuperSyn oil change done. I already rotated my tire this morning, when I discovered that one of the rims' center cap is missing. Nashua Town Faire Tire John's was so nice he ordered a center cap for me... I should swing by tomorrow mornning to get it :

INFO : for all of your guys that want to comare the OBX to the CT headers, take a look at the pic below. It does look like the OBX headers welding is sloppier than the CT but we'll see about the gains on the dyno.

Please note that the CT headers were used so that will naturally smooth them out!!!

I have 2 pictures like those... But I am working an NT 4.0 that does not support USB... Upgrading The work PC to Win 2k Pro.

I wonder of some Brush polishing is needed.

Any Ideas other than upgrading to WIn 2k pro?

Have a look for yourself:

Yea 40 ft/lbs alright.

It gained about 10hp and around 15ft/lbs of torque. Still no confirmation if the dyno's were done the same day. If the dynos were done the same day, then I'd have to say the OBX headers are the real deal.

NOTE! The TORQUE and HP are not on the same scale so be careful when you read the numbers off the graph!

This does not necessarily mean that the welding is sloppier. It may be just be that OBX did not spend as much time grinding them down.

Even though this is the AV6 OBX Dyno, I am still confused. The design is Comptech's; there is no discernable differences shown so far. But according to that dyno they act nothing like the Comptech units which, unless there is some unusual baffling, etc. inside the pipes, should perform similar to Comptech's...

The torque curve is all wrong. I'll wait to see Nashua's on Wed...

I did not use this to determine that the welds are sloppy - I mean they are not all that sloppy but you can tell that they are considerably sloppiER than the CT's.

I spent 850 installed, brand new, at valencia acura, sure I was working there and I was first person to install them at Valencia Acura, but still, lets say i got mine 150 over OBX headers, plus 200 for installation if you do not do it yourself. I got a great deal, especially since Im in Cali and also its not gonna void my warranty. ITs COMPTECH

Jeezz...spend awhile reading the last 9 pages of post...and i must say, there are some very good arguements!

I "personally" think that CT is overcharging for their Header...but you say, "They spent money on R&D" Shit look at all the headers for the Integra or Civic, Mustang, etc...they cost around $500, and i think they do R&D also. And someone posted that they got Titanium Headers for their RX-7 for 1,200.

OBX "stole" CT design...wheather they did or not...there is no patent or copyright of any sort...this is world economic. There is fierce competition, and only the fit will survive.

OBX hires taiwan for copule $$$ to weld and we pay $20-30 /hr...well you better do something to lower ur cost. Like it was stated...AMD, INTEL...many other company taking advantage of over seas labor.

OBX headers have sloppy welds...shit...i'm paying 50% of the price i don't reallly give a shit if the welds aren't 100% straight...as long as they produce the numbers i want. So you are telling me that you are willing to spend $500 just so CT can hire "professional" to weld uniform for you?

OBX headers are of lower quality than CT? Shit, you guys haven't physicallly seen or touch the OBX headers, how can u even say they are of lower quality. Most of you that have CT headers priase that u don't have any problems yet and that ur happy....How do you know that when ppl start getting OBX headers that they won't praise it and don't have any complaints?

Look at Prototype Racing Headers...SHIT those look HOT! Joe had to put $$$ for R&D, those headers look extremely diffficult to design...and he will be selling them around $1100..which is reasonable, since it proves to provide more gain at the lower end. There is no reason why comptech headers which isn't complex at all, to cost $1200.

CT does have a monopoly on us...They are basically the only place where we can buy aftermarket parts for our car from. It's just like Intel and AMD. Intel was untouchable, their prices were high ..until AMD came out with their K7, which beat the crap out of the P3 and at a lower price... AMD started to slash prices and INTEL had no other choice but to cut prices too. If more companies startes to give CT competition, and CT doesn't lower their prices they are GONE! Think about it....if their were 5 differen't headers for our cars from 5 differen't companies, do you think CT will sell their headers for $1200 while the other companies sell them for $500?

Most ppl buy stuff for the wrong reasons, you are suppose to buy an item for the product, not for the name. Any maybe CT does stand for "straighter and more uniform welds" but the consumer must have logical reasoning for buying it. I'm not going to buy a Intel for 2x the price of a AMD just becuase Intel is widely know and controls most of the market...thats just dumb! AMD does exact or better then INTEL for a fraction of the price. Any of you computer guys remember RDRAM??? SHit 128 MEGS of RDRAM ran about $600!!!!, but now its only worth $50. Intel tried to get a monopoly, if you want a P4 u gotta get RDRAM....until intel started to see that no one was buying it becuase it cost to damn much, and they had to switch to DRAM and DDR.

Sony is another company that does this really well to. Sony just has their name "SONY". Sony doesn't stand for quaitly , i tell you that. Most of sony's products aren't even made by sony...like there cd-burners, lcd screens, crt monitors, etc...sony buys from LG Philips, TDK, Samsung...and just slaps on a Sony logo, and jacks the price up. Sony can sell things because "their products look cool, more stylish" and similar products for half the price. Don't belive me....go out and buy a GE cordless phone for $24, and buy a Sony cordless for 100+ tell me which one is better. Then tell me which one is the better deal. The GE is clearer then the SONy and it's cheaper, but it might not look a "futuristic" as the sony..

For ppl who are still buying CT headers when OBX headers are out, i respect that you have a lot of $$$ to spend, but for the other 90% who are trying to think economically during these times of financial hardship, we would like to save $$$, and get the most bang for our buck.

Not to mention it only goes up to 6.5k rpm or is that how high the accord revs?

Look, you guys really can't make any educated decisions until we see a dyno ON A stock CLS.

Actually on the street we can only rev to about 6,250 - 6,300 before the transmission automatically shifts. But yea, our redline is 6,250 in the V6 Accord.

All I can say is that I had my CT headers for over 2 years...the rest of you have been playing with yourselves the rest of the time...waiting for the Prototype....and when they come out ...they are priced at roughly $1100-1200....now that OBX has one...you are all saying that it will be better? Price wise yes....performance-wise...as good...I doubt much better if they copied CTs design...BTW, I got mine for 890 brand new....sucks to be you all who had to wait to really enjoy your CL....

moommaster_99... How may times a day you rev your CLS above 5500 rpm? This is the only time that CT headers do a shit for your CLS..... Have you counted how many seconds the CT headers was useful for you? I know that OBX would be the same... but at 1/2 the cost is a lot better deal.

I actually like being able to rev past 4K a lot....and if you haven't felt the rush pass that point....don't worry now you can....all I'm saying is that I've had it for over 2 years...<---happy camper....

Yup, I agree Jacob. No one can really compare these Accord dynos to it due to the lower redline on the accord v6 engine.

Now, I paid $500 for my comptech headers, slightly used, but in great condition.

I would've most likely paid the full amount by now though for new one's had I not gotten the hookup.

As for people bashing comptech, saying that they are too expensive, I think that its all relative.

The gains are HIGHLY obvious with this mod. Also, you have to factor in the fact that I'm also KEEPING my ACURA 100K EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE COMPTECH HEADERS.

You guys that are installing the OBX headers can kiss your warranty good bye.

I'd prefer to add something to my engine that is warrantied by the manufacturer thru Acura, that way if problems ever do arise, I'm covered. EVEN if it is just a bolt-on mod.

At any rate, the OBX headers will have the same or less hp I predict.

Its foolish to say that it will be more due to the consistency of the design with the comptech headers.

BTW, ADAM, where in NOVA are you at dude? I wanna do some runs once you get those headers on!!!

Hey bud, I hate to tell ya but the whole thing about CT products not voiding your warranty is just myth. I really think it has to do with the dealer. Now, no matter what happens to your engine, I can almost promise you that the dealer will not say it was because of the headers. And, if they do you can tell them to prove it through what I think is called the "muss vs magnusson" law or something like that. Whatever..... Im in the chantilly/herndon area almost within walking distance of Pohanka Acura.... where are you?

It really does have everything to do with the particular dealer. Some will honor Comptech products, some won't

BTW it was the Magnuson/Moss act of 1981...

OBX or Comptech, headers CANNOT void a warranty......they are SIMPLE PIPES..no engine modification, no opening up the motor, just an external, non-moving, non-mechanical part....

Dam lots of good arguements, i just got my cl. I heard about prototype and i was just wondering if anyone knows when they will plan to enter the market.

As far as comptech vs obx. If you have the money and dont want to wait go for comptech cause you have fellow cl members testimonials. but what can we say till we get those dynos. Just curious what are the gains with ct headers?

Why are you guys even having this debate about price?? People buy cheaper Head Units, Amps, Speakers, Wheels, Tires, Shocks, Springs, ect. Many people base their buying decisions on price, and nothing else. If they want to settle on something of lesser quality, that is their decisions. I on the other hand believe that you get what you pay for. When I do my shopping, I look for the best price, for a top-of-the-line product.

Who is next to dyno these things? Seems like there is some controversy yet on the exact numbers. I don't have that warm confident feeling. I do appreciate those willing to walk point on these new products. I've landed on my keister too many times on leaps of faith.

Who is next to dyno these things? Seems like there is some controversy yet on the exact numbers. I don't have that warm confident feeling. I do appreciate those willing to walk point on these new products. I've landed on my keister too many times on leaps of faith.

That's all I'm waiting for... if your results look good.. I'm in.

I mean, for $400 I feel it's worth the risk of accepting lower quality.

Alright here is the main difference that I see in the OBX, compared to the CTs. THERE IS POWER DOWN LOW. With the CT there is no gain as a matter of fact u lose power. But from the dyno of Nashua CLS w/ the OBX headers I do see that there is a bump up from stock in the low end. As for the CTs there is nothing. Now that I still have my CT headers in the box and have had em for 2 weeks now waiting for the OBX dyno I feel that it would be a wise choice to return the CT headers and purchase the OBXs.
