NSX.......no respect?

Just trying to get a feel for what people think of the NSX. The stock Targa will beat most things on the road today. Only things that it'll have trouble with is the ferrari, lambo, hennessy viper.....anything else? It's running at 4.7 for 0-60 and 12.7 in the 1/4 mile. 290 @7100.
With mods, intercooled-supercharger, headers, intake, performance ECU, the NSX should hit about 400 horsepower and maybe something close to 270+ lbs/torque?
After the mods, i think it should be able to hang with and possibly beat everything besides the h-viper.
If Acura is going to redesign it and bring a 8cylinder-with the engineering they've done with 6-, then i think it might be safe to say that it might be safe to say that it will be the badest car around. Forget the lambo, forget porsche, forget ferrari. All the performance for like nearly half the price of any italian and about the same price of the german cars......Thoughts?

Not quite......modena is 147,275. NSX is less....even with all the mods the NSX is still less.....plus fuel efficiency is better.

i'm not the kind of person who is out to kick everybody's a$$, just a few . to me, the NSX is art; beautiful design of elegance, luxury, and sport. it may not b a class leader in one particular area, but it does offer many worthwhile aspects. people may think the design is too outdated (the body has remained the same since the early 90's), but this design does not need to change, for it continues to turn heads, it continues to intimidate, and it continues to b every bit of the sports car it was meant to b from day 1. being a conservative person, i think the NSX is just radical enough to not b too radical, just like i thought, and still think, the CL Type-S has the sportiness aspects to it while it still remains somewhat of a conservative looking car. keep in mind that this is only my take on it

scooter,
thanks for the response. I agree, no need to go looking for races and shit. My only point was that the car rarely gets brought up in threads and when it is it's usually dismissed for some reason and I can never understand why.

Anyone who doesnt respect an NSX hasnt driven one. My buddy brought his over last night as soon as he finished installing the headers and removing the cat (shh) and damn that car is fun to drive, looks great, and is as fast as I would ever need.
Would like to see a V-8 though...

The nsx is great, but it will never get its share of respect because it is a "rice burner" not a euro. Porsche, there is no substitute

i think it's because:

1. the NSX doesn't do one thing really well that stands out (but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing)

2. it's not as showy of a car vs. a Vette, Lamborghini, or Ferrari

3. it's too attainable - meaning, it's not out in the stratosphere as far as price goes, therefore, it's not as much of a rush. people i think associate the rush they get with the price tag. u would prob get just as much of a rush flyin with an NSX as u would with a Modena. a half a second difference in 0-60 or the 1/4 doesn't really diminish the rush all that much. "if u cannot afford a Ferrari, then it must b a kick-a$$ car to drive" - that may be, but i'll tell ya, an NSX is a kick-a$$ car to drive, especially when u got a suitcase with $40,000 to spare sitting next to u

MY feelings are that the NSX does not get the respect that other supercars get is cuz it is saddled with a V-6, it's Japanese, and it has less than 300hp.. somehow a lotta people have the notion that 300+ is the magical number to have and put alot more stock in European racers... The NSX Zanardi edition runs a 4.8 0-60mph and a 13.2 1/4 mile.. http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/zan.html
I think the looks are quite unique and if they did nothing to the exterior and put in a 340+ hp engine and decreased the price, then it would be a great 'value' in the sports car arena
I also found the Comptech supercharged NSX:
http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/comp.html
It says 5-speed manual but it should be a 6-speed manual.. and you figure with 425hp .. the Comptech supercharged NSX should definitely hit the 12's easily.. but they say 13.1 for 1/4 mile.. go figure

e1828,
I agree it gets shit on cause it has the 6. But who gives if it's an 8 or a 6? As long as it performs....right? I do see what you are saying.....

The new NSX better be offered with a solid top. The torque flex on the NSX-T is not acceptable from what I've read.

If I had the money, I'd rather have the NSX to be honest. I could drive the Acura everyday with no worries of mileage and not have to pay $1 per mile to run it like most Ferraris cost ... And yes, Ferraris do cost that much to run.

I read that to replace the belts on a Ferrari 512TR requires removing the engine. The price on that is at least $4000. Plus, the 30k mile service is $5-6000, which is why you see a lot of Ferraris sold just before they hit the 30k mark.

I agree with most of what everyone's said. I drove a new NSX last August just before I got my CLS and within 1 day of driving a new 911 and Vette. The NSX is the most fun, fast car I've ever driven. Better shifter than anyone. Fabulous driver's view down the hood to the road. BUT,

outside of the incredible driving experience, it's missing something to get passionate about. Nice looks but not to die for. Nice engine sounds, but NTDF. Nice interior, but NTDF. Somebody with passion for cars needs to design the next one IMO. It's a very logical choice, but it would sell much better if your hormones were also engaged saying "I gotta have this."

I was on the freeway a couple of months ago and this guy pulls up next to me in his NSX-T and actually gave me a thumbs up on my CL. It floored me because he was driving the car I've wanted since 1990. . .

I have to say, the NSX is a kickass car, and I would probably get one if I had the money. I can't think of many cars I would rather have...except the F360 Modena pictured above (mmm...Modena)

One of those F360 Modenas was parked in the frickin' parking lot on campus yesterday. I saw it as I left (in my CL-S). I was like "OMFG!!!" I couldn't believe someone would park that bomb-diggity ride in the regular parking lot (although he was at the end of a row).

Sooooo sexy. I almost wet my pants.

The NSX is one DAMN beautiful car, and its a 10 year old car.

It's not the fastest, nicest, or cheapest car, but my personal view is that it's basically a feeling of "I have an NSX and you don't" or "I can afford an NSX" and a slap in the face to other people. And it's probably the most dependable exotic car out there, unlike Vipers, Ferraris, Lambos, etc.

Even so, the NSX is still faster than 99% of the cars you see everyday.

p.s. those Modenas are fucking gorgeous

Interestingly enough, the NSX is respected by people in the know, and engineers, and car designers. One story sticks out for me. I don't know the exact specifics, or they guys name, as I don't follow exotc cars, but he is the designer of the McLaren F1 Street car. Those who follow Exotic cars should know who he is. Anyway, in a magazine interview, he was asked a question in the early design stages, if he was going to model the McLaren Street car after the Ferrari 355 (I think that was the car). His response was "No, I don't know anyone that can weld that poorly". By the way, he also owns an NSX. I thought that was pretty funny, as well as insightful.

Also, Car & Driver TV just tested the 2001, which some NSX owners believe was a 2000 model, at 0-60 in 4.5, and 1/4 mile in 12.9. And people still think it is under powered?

yeah that 360 is like the most beautiful looking ferrari so far. it is just soooooo awesome. I am really thinking about dropping $400 and renting it from this place here for a day. For those of you in houston...the place on richmond (I think)near the galleria...where you can rent all types of exotics. They have a red modena there. Only thing that worries me Is that I will know that I will never love to drive anything less again, The Lottery commision still hasn't got my numbers

For my opinion the current NSX is a little bit outdated, so I would put my expectation on the new one, and I think it's cost would still be controlled at the same level or even less. So 360 Modena is still at least double the price of the new NSX or may be more.

OK, the story is like this, let me just share with you.
It was told to me by a person who was a senior engineer teaching data modeling at Oracle.
Story: Larry Ellison was speeding in his Acura NSX down hwy 101. A CHP spotted him, and followed him with flashing police lights. Instead of pulling over, Ellison drove all the way to Oracal, and parked at his desinated parking spot. Then he rolled the window down and told the cop that he had already called his lawyer. Then he rolled the window up, took out his laptop and started working and waiting for the lawyer.
True or not, I don't know. The source of the story is from withing Oracle.

just remember, in pulp fiction, the wolf drove an nsx, and he was gonna kill jon travolta if he didn't get it back the way he left it (wish he had, then we wouldn't be cursed with battlefield earth). i'd respect that.
