NSX Dead & New Luxury Coupe

NSX Dead & New Luxury Coupe
According to the July issue of Automobile magazine, this being in relation to one of several stories concerning the CL. According to Automobile, the business case for producing the HSC concept just wasn't satisfactory enough to justify production, so Honda has turned its attention to a new luxury coupe instead.
On another note, Honda may not build another S2k either.

Good question, from the start Honda has always stated that there was going to be a limited number of S2000s bult and the rumor is 2005 is the last year for it.
The NSX and S2k are built in their own factory in Japan. So only the S2k and Insight would end up being produced there if the NSX goes away. Who knows what would happen if the S2k gets discontinued, guess another car would take its place.

That's what was in the article, the NSX is gone, done, finished.....with no replacement.
Is it a rumor? Ask Automobile.

Strange.
Strange.
won't be gone per say.....just reborn........
moreover....honda always uses R&D, nothing is usually wasted on just one car.

wow I sure hope they have something up their sleeve cause that would seriously suck .. the only two true sports cars they made, and RWD no less, gone .. maybe they are going to try to do something no one else is doing yet (with exception to the audi TT quattro) .....
release some AWD coupes.
release some AWD coupes.

there are rumors swirling that honda is going to kill off the s2k and have it be reborn into the acura line up. S2kplatform is logical selection for new lux coupe. It would kill any BS flags from people saying yet another sports coupe from acura that's subpar on performance etc.,
The prelude/crx or some variant makes a return into the lineup.

This all sounds to me like the Honda is starting to copy Toyota's plan to focus on producing well built but uninspiring cars.
Though I guess following the "business case" for producing cars is logical, you have to showcase cars like the NSX and S2000 to showcase the company's capabilities; which ultimately trickles down to other models. (Maybe they can even outsource the production construction of the HSC through Ferrari in order to avoid having to retrofit any current assembly lines. Dunno. just thinking aloud.)
Anyway, the question is will Honda make some bloated overpriced coupe like the Lexus SC430 or a sweet yet affordable successor to the 2G CL (maybe something built on the 04 TL's platform, which would ideally be AWD)??
Maybe I'll get an S2000 now; if its discontinued, it'll be even MORE of a collector's item.

The news doesn't seem that creditable to me. Honda knew what they were getting into before building the concept, its silly that they would all of a sudden realize only after building the hsc concept and not during all the years of NSX production, that this isn't a volume car.
As far as an acura coupe, think it would make sense that it would be based off its sedan counterpart, not a small s2000 platform. Styling killed the cl, not the drive layout. The tl gets bashed for not being a real sports sedan and outsells the g35 by a wide margin.
Anything is possible, but it would be a lot of history down the drain losing those two cars. Of course they did kill the integra, legend, etc names which had history so the s2000 name could be replaced by an acura name considering acura is now in japan also.

My salesman said Honda had initially debated whether the S2K would be an Acura or a Honda. It makes sense that they would get rid of the Honda if they were going to make an Acura convertible, which my salesman also said was a good possibility. I just hope there is a hard-top available for the hard-core enthusiasts here and not only a luxury convertible for pops. IMO, the lexus SC430 is a waste of a car--hopefully Acura will not try to imitate that.

Here is a thread at the temple of vtec talking about it

Hopefully they dont use the S2K platform and turn it into a pig with a 4 cyl to lug it around. What will honda have if they have no NSX and no S2k. We now have no supra, no rx7, no 300zxTT, no 3000gtvr-4, no R34 Skyline GT-R VspecII, and soon we will have no s2k and nsx. The japanese are not doing their thing anymore. They are releasing less and less driver cars. They are releasing more and more all around "sport cars." Sad part is the that the Germans are crushing the performance wars.

Nissan is probably saving tons of money by have the same V35DE in a slew of models rather than designing and developing different motors for different applications. (off the top of my head, I think Nissan only offers 6 different engines spread between 15 USDM Nissan, Infiniti and one Renault model)
Toyota only sells what will sell in large volume (Camry, Corolla, Sienna, Rav 4, etc,...); NOTHING made by Toyota now is awe-inspiring. When your main performance car is the MR-S Spyder (*cough* deathtrap *cough*) and Celica GT-S with its predecessors the MKIV TT and Celica All-Trac, then you've given up on the performance segment.
So I guess it was a matter of time before Honda went the cost cutting route: dumping the low production (high cost?) NSX and S2000, vacating the luxo coupe segment (CL), keeping the TL on the Accord platform/powertrain (sort of); producing the MDX/Pilot on the Odyssey platform/powertrain, cross application of the K24A (CRV, TSX, Accord, Element), etc,...
The Germans have just gone performance CRAZY like no other automakers before. (The E55, RS6, C55 and M5 are incredible.) But, it looks like Ford (Mustang), GM (CTS-V, GTO) and Chrysler (300 Hemi) are attempting to come right back at them with it. However both the German and American automakers have some SERIOUS quality issues.
I dunno what the future holds but, I hope the Japanese automakers dont give up on performance cars.
This is just my $.02 guys. I hope Honda doesnt discontinue the NSX and S2K. Peace.

Thats odd that they are suddenly trashing the NSX when the president of honda just said that the hsc concept would go in to production very soon. Maybe they are just spreading around that it is getting trashed when in fact...it isn't. Maybe to surprise everyone? I wouldnt mind the s2000 ditching honda and moving to the acura name though.
