not happy with new brake setup

I had my new SS brake lines and HAWK pads installed today and of course was expecting that spungy feeling to no longer be present...... I drove my car around for a while ( about 20 miles ) and if anything the pedal feels softer then it did when I had the stock setup with Axxis pads..... I did not waste any time and took the car back to the installer and asked if a tech could check it out. He says "becuase they are new pads the pad is not getting much friction on the rotor and therfor will feel spungy until you break it in." I thought there might be air in the line and that they would have to bleed it, but he instisted it would be better and to call him tommarow if this is still happening and he will flush the brake system again. could it be that the lines are longer and require more fluid? any suggestions?? Thanks.

They did bleed the brake system after installing the lines correct?

I currently have hawk hps pads on my car and they also feel somewhat spongy around the city. I dont have the SS lines so it is possible that you have some air in the lines. Try the hawks out on the highway and you will love them!

New pads have nothing to do with the pedal feeling spongy, this guy is pissing on your leg.

If the pedal is soft there is air in the line or you have caliper flex. If the pedal is hard but the car doesn't stop then you likely have a pad or rotor problem.

the wierd thing is that when the car is off and i pump the brakes a few times it gets really firm... then soon as I turn the car on, the brake get really soft again. Im really thinking that there is air in the lines.

no thats the power brakes working for you, its vaccum powered, its the brake booster. its supposed to do that, they will always feel spongy because on these cars they have a big ass brake booster and becaause its so big its offering a lot of assistance to the driver. the only way to make them feel more soilid is to go to a smaller booster. but you still might have a little air and everything and if you put ceranic pads they will fell even more soft, metallic brakes feel the most solid.

I replaced my rotors, pads and lines a couple months ago. Rotoras, Axxis ultimates and SS brake lines. I did all the work myself including the bleeding. THe first time around the block I had to pump the brakes like mad to get the car to stop. It slowly got better after a few trips around the block, but the brake feel was spongy and I had to almost press the pedal to the floor in order to stop for about a week or a couple hundred miles of city driving before they broke in. Now I barely have to tap the pedal for the brakes to bite and the spongy feel is gone. I think the AXXIS pads just take a while to break in.

I just installed Hawk HPS with stock rotors and lines. Took it for a drive to break the pads in. It stops way better now, the pedal feel is a bit firmer than before, but I still managed to get brake fade after a few hard stops. I'm going to switch do Valvoline dot4 fluid and see if it makes any difference...

Did those brakes ever get bled again, and how did they feel afterwards if so? I had rotoras, ebc pads, legend calipers and ss lines installed about a week ago and the pedal does seem to feel a bit mushy, about the same as the stock brake lines. I have to push the pedal about half way down until it seems the brakes actually engage. The stopping power is slightly better than stock, though I was expecting a much stiffer pedal feel espcially with the ss lines. Driving a TSX this past weekend (completely stock brakes), and comparing the two, the TSX's are significatnly more responsive. My first thought is to get the brakes bled again or does the TSX have much more responsive brakes than the CL does overall?

I never said he was stupid, nor was I insinuating that he was stupid...

Was just hoping to get some more info on the situation, or any insight anyone else might have had with their brake setup. And I'd rather post in an existing thread that is relative to my question/concern, and would also like to know if the OP had ever fixed their pedal feel.
