New Keys

Hey Guys,

I just bought a used 2002 CL-S, and was wondering what I need to do to get another copy of the car keys. I was given one set with the car I bought, which is a key and a separate mechanism which allows for locking, unlocking, trunk, and panic. Where would I go to get another set? What would I have to bring with me, and how much would it cost?

Thanks everybody.

Also, is it possible to get the mechanism built into the key like some of today's new cars?

I just happen to try to get a key made yesterday. You have to get a key with a chip inside of it, you can buy them either on ebay or a local locksmith. You can get a regular key cut, but it will only unlock your car and not start it. I bought one off ebay for $15 and the locksmith is going to charge me $10. Which is cheaper than $100 or so from the dealer. Ok im done.

Both dealerships by me charge $24 for the key with cutting and programming. The remote runs around $80 so I grabbed one on eBay for $15 and programmed it myself. Make sure when your looking on eBay you get the right one. Lots of them list working with the CL and I'm sure they would but they don't have the trunk release button. I'm sure they will still work fine but you won't be able to open the trunk via the remote (which could be a real pain since the only other place to open it is via the button inside the car). Most are used and they icons on the buttons has worn off. You can find some in "like new" condition for around $25 each on there. Just make sure you read the auction description carefully. I got mine from MyKeyless. Price was good, shipping was fast, and instructions were included (you can also get instructions here on the forum). Checkout his auctions as he seems to have plenty of the CL remotes and all are tested.

This one is being sold as a CL remote. Notice there is no trunk button.

Here is another one. Notice it has a trunk button.

Actually I was gonna go have another key made and programmed for $24 at the dealership today but I wanna oil change too and they're booked til Monday. Guess it's off to my dad's cousin's shop for the oil change (where I'll pay 1/2 as much for full synthetic).
