Is this normal?

I've had my car for over 2 years now and I just noticed when I put on my rear defogger, my radio sounds completely full of static. As soon as I turn it off, the radio sounds fine. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'd say that's not normal.

Nawh, it's not normal... But, IIRC, it has been reported here before by other members.

I've had my car for over 2 years, and have never had even a hint of static.

Mine does that when I'm listening to AM stations with the defogger on. It's because the radio antenna is embedded in the rear windshield. I'm not sure if on the 2nd gens that should happen or not though.

Back from the dead...

I've been pretty happy with my whip now (1 week so far) other than the damn sunroof track vibrating/resonating like crazy between 20mph-40mph.

Low and behold, this morning I turn on my rear defogger while listening to Star & Buc Wild In The Morning , and all I hear is static until I turn the defogger off again. I know the radio wires and the defogger are all on the rear window, but I can't imagine Acura not correcting that.

Is there a TSB or something for this? Radio isn't important enough to me to justify spending any money to get it corrected, but if I can get it fixed for free, then great

Hummm Ive had my car for three years with no issue related to the rear defroster. Although I did have to have the Bose amp replaced do to a horrible whine in the raio when it was cold outside. I don't think its an issue of the antenna being in the rear window, since alot of cars now use this design. Do you only get this static when using the radio, or CD player too?

I have an 02 TL-S and it happens to me too. i just assumed it was because the antenna was in the rear window, but who knows.

Ive owned my car since September. I know what your talking about...it sometimes happens to me, but not all the time. Im not sure why the static would come through listening to FM some times and not others. Something wrong between the antenna and the defroster, maybe a loose ground ? I mostly listen to CD's so I dont have a motive to fix it.

I only get it when I use the FM and rear defogger at the same time. I just installed my alpine head unit this weekend and I'm getting the same problem.

There was a TSB for the sunroof. The dealer replaced my seal (no charge).

I went into the stealership yesterday and mentioned the problem. Seems he conveniently forgot to mention the TSB?

How/where do I get the TSB from so I can print it out?

Go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr.../tsbsearch.cfm and enter 633359 in the "NHTSA Item Number:" field. Then you can click on the "Print Version" button.

INFORMATION REGARDING SQUEAKS HEARD FROM THE MOONROOF SEAL WHILE DRIVING WITH THE GLASS CLOSED AND THE SUNSHADE OPEN.
I'm not sure if that's it because I only hear the problem when the moonroof is open, and it's more of a him or a vibration than a squek.

When the glass slides back, there's a bar that pops up which spans across the front of the roof opening. Could it be that? I know when I hit about 50, it starts to flap and rattle like mofo. Try reaching up and grabbing it to see if that's what is vibrating. I'm not sure if a wind deflector would stop this or not, didn't buy one when I bought the car. My 1st gen CL didn't have that bar. Also, the glass in it went ALL the way back...unlike our 2nd gens. Bad design in my opinion.

That's exactly what it is, I just wasn't sure how to describe it. It's that bar. Is there a TSB for that?

Mine does that too. The few times I had it open. I didn't pay it much mind. It's too damn hot down here to open that thing most of the year. I think it's normal. I heard you can remove it, or put some tape on it so it doesn't rattle so much.

The TSB refers the moonroof glass rattling when it's closed, but the sunshade is open.

In a few months this will all be null and void cuz like you said fuzzy, it gets too hot down here for anything other than the AC, but I still want it fixed if it's not going to cost me a grip. I just don't want to waste my time at the dealer, only for them to tell me it's a $200 job or something, followed by me laughing and peeling out
