Noise on Navi Screen

I've noticed this for about a month or so, and thought I'd get your opinion on it. This occurred before and after the Navi disc upgrade.

I've been noticing a fairly faint amont of 'noise' on the navi screen that appears as sweep lines (horizontal) that move up or down. Sort of like the sweep on a CRT or TV when viewed with a lousy antenna.

I notice that the speed of the sweep changes or switches direction when the turn signals are on.

I would gather that there is no 'sweep' in a LCD screen so this must represent some sort of interference or grounding issue.

I'm going to bring the car in soon for the timing belt tensioner update and I guess will ask for them to check this out.

What I cannot remember is if this was noticible all along, or if this is a new issue. The lines are pretty faint and only noticible in certain lighting. Has anyone else noticed this on their Navi screen?

I've seen this in more than a few cars ,We attempted to get rid of it once by replacing the screen but the effect remained .Thus far we have seen no cure for it

Let me nose around see if anything useful turns up on this it is not the first time I ave heard of this sort of problem .it might be alternator noise somehow affecting the screen .

Yeah I am having this issue too, also can't get the dealer to replace the navi unit in the trunk that I think is going bad. After a hour or so of driving, it throws the unformatted disc or something like that. And when I make a appt to bring the car in when its not happening, they say they have to see it occur, and by the time I get near home they are closed. I hate this.

Are you guys talking about lines/waves that go across the screen? I get those when I push on gas. I asked ones about it but no one replied.

Yes, exactly.

I guessing from the replies that a lot of us have it. I just really didn't notice it until about a month ago. Must be in the design.

Again, before jimcol chimes in, this is a very minor issue, barely worth mentioning.

The unformatted disc error is an issue with the brain in the trunk, nothing canbe done but to replace the brain .I am looking around to see if there is any solution for the wavy lines on the screen .I'll post if i find something constructive .

Kinda reminds me of bad grounding for amp...I had one done on my old cl(they put them on side didn’t separate it).
when I would push on gas I would hear this high pitch noise.

Could be something to do with stock amp or stereo wiring?
I have all stock stereo.

Wavy lines says eletrical interfierence to me. Maybe though the video signal from the trunk? Jens, is there sheilding around the navi screen (like a metal shield)?

Damn if we all lived closer we could have this figured out in an hour We have this nice case of video tricks (adapters, isolators, etc) at work and we could zip the RGB signal through a nice amplified iso switcher and see if that helped.

It is in a metal case and all of the video wiring is shielded coming from the trunk .It could be the shielding is faulty but I would actually need a car here to prove or disprove that one .

I've had the interference lines in my TL-S since day one. Doesn't matter what disc I have in there. Definitely looks like electrical noise (alternator, etc). I would guess a shielding/grounding problem but since it is so widespread and not that noticeable I've left it alone.

I keep my Navi screen is Day mode now, you really notice the lines when its in night mode or auto with the lights on. So to keep it bright and no lines keeping it on DAY Mode all the time helps

I’ve been doing that myself lately.
With the new version, the “unverified roads” are damn near invisible on the gray background when dimmed in night mode.
One of the few minor complaints I have with the new DVD.

Jens- I've had this problem consistently too. If I'm in ACC mode, it looks fine, but once i start the engine, that's when it starts.. but the wavy motion seems to fluctuate synchoronously with how I step on the gas. So yes, I think it is an alternator problem, perhaps feeding variable voltage to the brain does this?

I was thinking maybe a 12V voltage regulator for it??? But from what I know, the navi unit has an actual battery lead as well as an ACC-on lead (for an ON relay).

I've done the avc-rgb1 install... FYI.

I'm gonna subscribe to this post as well.. I'd really like to get this figured out.

I leave mine in auto mode, and only override it to day mode if I drive with my lights on in the daytime (rain, heavy overcast...).

Im looking for a solution as well. For me I only get the lines when the car engine is running. When I am on ACC or On position on iginition, there are no lines.

What about wrapping MU foil around the Navi Monitor?
