The "new" transmissions

Hey guys. I had a 01 Type-S already & sold it cuz I was scared of the transmission issues even though it had 134,000 on the original & didn't slip. Well here I am missing the car bad, can't find an 03 6-speed for the right price & w/ navigation....

Well I've found an 01 CL Type-S bright blue/black leather, navi, 1 owner, in Texas all it's life w/ 92,000 miles for a good price. It got a "new" transmission installed @ the dealer for free 10,000 miles ago & the guy said it seems to shift a lil slower than before but engages like it should & def no slipping. Honest older guy w/ a new TL to boot.

My question is, how many ppl have a "new" tranny in the past cpl years & haven't had a problem?? Is there a way to know for sure if it's a good one or anything like that? Man I love the CL Type-S' & like em w/ an automatic (strangely) & just want it to work w/o issues. It's in such good shape & I want it. Just looking for a few comforting words I think. Some ppl say they finally fixed it, some have nothing but bad words.

Thanks & please don't flame me for bringing the G D transmissions up yet again.

If you trust the seller and really can't stand to wait any longer then buy it...

IMO you should wait it out and take the extra time/research to find a 6spd. I flew from ATL to Chicago to pick mine up and that was only after I talked the dealer down $1500. It's pre owned certified w/warranty for another 30k miles. You can and will find the right deal on a six speed if you take your time.

Always search the entire US for good deals on 6 speeds. If you save $1000 bucks on the price then your plane ticket out there is more than paid for. Cali and Florida probably have the most 6 speeds 4 sale which is good if your closer to one coast than the other.

You will thank yourself in the long run if you wait for and buy what you really want (03 6spd w/navi) trust me.

I bought an 01 CLS with a "new" transmission in April. It is perfect. I have no fear that it will run for years to come. I love it.

I have friends with accords that have not been maintained, have been in accidents & still run flawlessly with upwards of 500k on them.

Yeah if anyone has an 03 6-speed w/ a clear title w/ under 100,000 miles & $10,000 let me know. Otherwards I have no choice...

Something doesn't sound right here... I don't think the original 01 CL Type S came in a BLUE exterior color. Was the car repainted?? Or was it the dark blue color (which only came in a non-Type S).

I would honestly wait for a 6-speed to come around. Even if you find one with ~100k you know the transmission is solid.

I'm on my 2nd transmission (60k miles) and I have a buddy with an 03 TL that is on his 4th. These things are like glass.

Don't worry about the tranny issue. If its the new build with the oil jet installed then its very unlikely that you will have any issues.

First, the majority of people on here haven't ever had a tranny problem. Second, don't forget about the 95% of other CL owners on the road who don't belong to this forum and never have had a tranny problem.

In terms of car quality, yes it was a high failure rate, but its not like 50% of the trannys on the affected cars broke down.

Mine was changed with 60K miles and I have almost 160K on my car now and my tranny shifts as smooth as 100K miles ago.

That's good to hear. I think I'm gonna go for it & get the powertrain warranty through my bank. They actually give you the money to fix whatever problem then do the claim themselves which is good. My friend banks w/ them also & got a rear end on his Silverado replaced w/o a single hitch through it so I think they wont hassle me if the tranny went.

Defintely no ABP in 2001. You better check on that. I know because I have an 01 Type S and if ABP was available, I would have chosen that in a heartbeat over Silver. ABP was either an 02 or 03 color.

When I had my tranny replaced about 10K miles ago (I have 120K on the odo) the tech told me that he had personally replaced over 100 of them with the rebuilt versions and has yet to see any come back with problems.

Just changed my tranny fluid for the first time yesterday since I did 3 quarts at 90K miles, Im at 158k now and the fluid was a little dark but there was no shavings/metal or anything in the fluid.

I could easily have gone another 40k without changing it but I do a lot of highway traveling so the mileage on my car doesn't represent a ton of shifts, mostly 5th gear cruising.

i found it. there is actually a couple of transmission recalls for our cl.
Concerned about safety? So is Acura. That's why My Acura provides up-to-date recall information about your vehicle. Because My Acura recall listings are based on your Acura's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), they are specific to your vehicle.

Your 2001 Acura is included in the 00-04 CL & TL A/T RECALL Campaign. Description 00-04 CL & TL A/T RECALL
Date 06/29/2004

Status Fixed

what does this(STATUS FIXED) means?

Your 2001 Acura is included in the 2000-03 TRANS WARRANTY EXT Campaign. Description 2000-03 TRANS WARRANTY EXT
Date 09/27/2002
Type Recall Customer Letter

This warranty extension is only covered for 100,000 miles or 7 yrs. I already have about 156,000 don't know if they will still honor this.

Yours is exactly like mine. The issue was fixed in the first one. I have no problems and I am sure you won't either.
