New Tire Time!

OK guys...I am looking for some new tires for my 2001 acura cls...My tires arent Yul Brenner yet but they are definitely Jack Nicholson or worse.. Someone had mentioned some toyo tires I think that stick out further than the stock rims(this way I would be able to take it to the local shammy shine without worry of further scratching my rims) anyone know which tires they were and where I can get them in Jersey?

Yes Toyos stick out a little bit and provide some extra protection. I have 235/45/17s mounted on my stock '03 rims.

Excellent tires...the T1-S Proxes

k

I have about 33,000---the fronts are worn down pretty bad...the backs have about 30-35 percent left...I prefer to have all 4 be the same...sts recommended the toyo proxis which do have the rim protection but at 200 a tire its a little steep...plus(despite what the rep said) I have read they are garbage in the snow...which is more important to me than a "Z" rating...I rarely take my car over 90...any recommendations from anyone?
My main needs are...
A rim protector
All season
At least as good as the stock tires
Under 150 a tire....
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

J

i use the Pilot Sport A/S's for my winter setup and have been impressed with overall satisfaction...it's not a racing tire, but it does make up for it in the snow...unfortunately, i paid $200 a pop for em

Wow---these seem really good based upon the reviews...and they cost less than half than the toyo proxis..--I may have to just order these..unless I can find a local dealer..I wonder if they have that protective lip for the rims.

Those Continentals look more suitable for nonsports cars - just by looking at the tread pattern. I have had Sumitomo HTR+ tires for about 20k miles and really like them. However, I have seen a few posts from people that were less than glowing. You can do a search, but for my money the Sumitomo HTR+ will give you decent all season tires with grip and handling that is far superior to the stock tires. By the way, I would either go with the stock tire size or 235-45-17.

hmm

checked the stats on the continental tires...they have the extra lip for the rim protection...I am definitely leaning that way...I am definitely open to any other suggestions for all season sportish tires though...

I just switched out my Toyo T1S tires (worn out because of crappy alignment job) for Sumitomo HTR+. I say check 'em out because most of what I read gave them really good all around ratings. They also have the "curb guard" as the tire guy called it. Note, the "curb guard" will eliminate about 2/3 of the possible wheel alignment shops because their equipment is designed to hook up to the rim. Some shops will actually deflate the tires a bit to get the equipment on then air 'em back up.

Hey, the price on the Sumi's is great.

Have had sumitomo HTR+ in stock size for about 2 months and they are excellent to very good in all areas ...considering the price at tirerack.com they are "the value buy of the year".

Sumitomo's look good..but I think I have read almost all reviews for the continentals and they seem a little better...as far as the tread not being for a sportscar...well, many of the reviewers have better sports cars than ours and they seem happy so I am taking the plunge! I will let you guys know how they are....

I am looking at a set of Bridgestone potenzas S03s pole position tires. Has anyone had any experience with those? I hear the traction wet and dry are excellent. I am a bit worried about snow.. I guess if I get them I will have to buy some winter tires.

I got so sick of the OEM tires they sucked...
