New Six Speed Tranny...(jk)

..or at least it feels like one....all winter it was pretty notchy....esp second gear...I know a lot of others experienced this...but it got bad at times.....now with the warmer weather in NE though...it shifts like a dream! Just wanted to share my excitement....for I can finally drive the car like its built for...high RPMs, smooth shifting....and FUN!!!!!

Yes I must agree with you....it's getting better and better every time I drive it. The notchiness everyone commented on is still there but is getting better. I'm at 2,400 miles since Dec 1st when I picked it up from the dealer. Now I definitly cant wait to get the CT Springs and sway bars....

Stiffer shifting with cold transmission oil effects many manual transmission vehicles. But generally even in cold weather the shifting gets better after about 20 min of driving. (the transmission oil warms up with use).
Was the shifting bad in winter even after the car warmed up?

My car is shifting MUCH smoother since the temps went up a few degrees.

In the winter, the cold weather shifting problems went away after 5-10 minutes of driving.
It was only the first few miles that shifting was real rough.

PS…..
Anyone who took a test drive in the wintertime and decided AGAINST buying the car for this reason owes themselves another try.

Yep, I've noticed that shifting has gotten a little better w/ the warmer weather too.

I've got 5500 miles on my 6spd, and I did notice that shifting was improved after about 3500 miles (once the syncros worn in a bit in the tranny).

I agree! Maybe ours were made loose? I prefer to think it's modern lubricants that promote easy shifts in the cold. Frankly I was amazed how easy this tranny shifted when it got down to 10F. Back in the day, trannies shifted like they had Jello as oil: incredibly stiff.

Having the same problem, has anyone gone to Redline or Amzoil or any other synthetic, and if so any difference?

All you warm weather guys make me sick.

Better shifting after 3500 miles? Not sure how it can get better. Its almost perfect now. The only issue is that you have to make sure you pushed the lever far enough when going into first gear. Not and issue with other gears.

Someone on this forum tried synthetic oil (Redline I think) about a year ago. He had very bad results. The transimission action was degraded. He switched back promptly.

Wait till next winter. I hit 3500 during Jan/Feb, and it was shifting smoother then when it was brand new. This was in cold weather still.

I believe that the warm weather improves smoothness, as does the "wearing in" of the tranny syncros.

Glad to hear it - just remember NE is Nebraska!

I guess this “problem” could go away with age, but only time will tell.
The post above from Klamalama says he doesn’t have this problem, and I believe his car has over 20K on it.
Mine was doing it all winter and I ran the mileage from about 7K back in November to its current reading of 10K.

By next November I will have about 18K or so and maybe it will be smoother.

But like I said, I don’t really consider this to be a problem since it’s GONE after a few miles.
