New Mazda-6 & RX-8! *PICS*
The Tokyo Auto Show is going to have a lot of cool new cars it seems. Check out the new Mazda-6 & RX-8! They look very promising to me with 6-speed 220bhp V6 and 250bhp RENISIS engines. What do you all think? Zoom Zoom Zoom!

The first version of the RX-8 will be normally aspirated (NA), it makes 250bhp & 153lb.ft of torque. I have heard that they are planning on doing a TT version that will produce upwards of 320hp or so. The amazing thing about this engine is that it redlines at 10,000 rpm, even higher than the Honda S2000. Pretty cool stuff IMHO.

And why the hell are all new cars getting Altezza lights.

They should just bring back the last-gen RX7 body style and it would sell like hot cakes.

There's a preview of the 2003 Mazda 6 at Edmunds.com with more pics. According to the article, it'll handle better than a Honda Accord and have a 3.0L V6 producing 219hp with either a 4 speed auto or 5 speed stick.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And, if you haven't noticed, the MP3 wagon looks almost identical to the IS300 sportcross.
Good looking cars, though. That M6 might take a big chunk out of IS300 sales if it comes in at a reasonable cost. I'm sure it handles great, too, since the MP3 consistently gets the highest marks for handling....but the lowest marks for power.
Is the RX8 gonna have the 2 mini doors in the back like the prototype that was tested about a year ago? Torque could be an issue here, however, I do remember reading that the engineers were going to up the torque b/c they know that Americans like big torque.

As I recall Mazda stopped manufacturing the RX7, Nissan shitcanned the ZX300, and Toyota killed the Supra within about a year or two of each other (all for lack of sales). Now Nissan is bringing back the Z, Mazda is bringing back an RX7 replacement...can Toyota be far behind? Also, consider the booming tuner aftermarket for RX7s and especially twin turbo Supras. In the Fast and Furious climate of today there seems to be much more demand for these treasured performance vehicles of a few years ago.

First of all, none of those cars have stopped manufacture. They are simply not being imported. And I would not say there is a "booming" aftermarket surrounding these cars. Maybe 25% of the cars sold, at the most. That's not enough. They happen to garner a lot of attention and admiration, but how many people actually put money down and bought one? Obviously, it was not enough for the companies to make a profit.

Whatever. Whether they're no longer being imported or not being manufacturered, the result is the same: you can't get a new one. So, you're right on one point: 6 years ago there wasn't enough demand to cover the cost. That is obviously not the case now. If there was no market for these cars, they all wouldn't be bringing them back now in "new" skins.
