NEW ECU is replaced with each Re-built Tranny!!!
NEW ECU is replaced with each Re-built Tranny!!!
Or this what have been reported on the forum for those who had new tranny replaced this year (Jan 2003)...
1) Why the ECU has to be replaced?
2) As stated by SilverBullet post the ECU is recalled (or a TSB would be issued... more likely)
3) Any Update from SilverBullet informant?
EricL, do you think any "detuning" is slipped by Acura in their new ECUs?

My seat of the pants dyno told me my car felt slower when I got it back. However I was thinking that maybe all of the metal shaving in the tranny fluid were helping the converter lockup. Which is why it felt faster before.

That's what I have been wondering for awhile now. I wish there was a good way to check or confirm this. I'd be livid if they did do such a thing.

However, Nitrotiger got his car back and it's faster......

I hope I get the new stuff, since my car will now be at the dealer thursday for its tranny.

My car doesn't feel as powerful now either. I got my tranny, torque converter, and ECU replaced about a week ago and I do feel the car a bit slower now, especially in VTEC range. I've been meaning to check the actuator, but I don't think that's it. I hope it's just me and not some detuning work by Honda/Acura.
Well, what about this:
If you just got your car back from a tranny replacement, you might have "softer" driving tendencies because you wanted to be careful and not risk another tranny replacement. This would cause the ECU to adjust to a "soft" program as well, no modification needed.
The ECU reacts to driver input, how hard you drive in the first ~5 mins will affect the rest of your day with the car. This is an awesome technique for fuel efficiency by the way.
So who here has driven her hard after the tranny replacement? It could turn out that your car should "respond" like before, minus the slippage heh.

I get my car back tomorrow ( Monday ). They replaced the tranny and ECU, but they can't get the car to start now, so the alarm installer is going there tomorrow to fix it. I'll ask them why there is a new ECU, and what the benefits of it the new one is compared to the OLD.
