Tranny Failure Poll

Seeing all the posts about tranny's biting the dust. I am wondering if it was a match of bad parts or driving habits or what? I am pretty tame with my shifting...how agressive are others...especially those whose trannies have failed?

How often do you drive in SS mode?

How often do you take it to redline before shifting up?

How often do you downshift to brake?

It looks it does not matter how hard you drive ...if it is "on-the-list" it would fail...

Some are running 75 or more and not a single problem... others who never been on this board and drive like a 90-yr old grandma... had tranny failures... only Honda knows what's happening....

I was hard on my 1st TLP tranny, and it went at 37,000 miles. When it was replaced I decided to go extremly easy, and the 2nd lasted two days (120 miles).

I agree with Nashua_Night_Hawk on this one... It seems not to matter how it is driven, or what is in it.

Yeah, this thread is a dupe. See EricL's sticky post in the Trans forum.

Now that SilverBullet's tranny went, with a trans cooler, it's clear to me that there's nothing a driver can do to prevent a failure.

I'd like to know how "auto all the time" equates to "never been over 4k on the tach". I leave my car in D4 or D5 almost all the time (I'd say of the 40k miles on my car now maybe 2k have been in SS). That doesn't mean I've never been over 4k rpm.

I'm always in SS, but occasionally WOT. No choice for me in this poll.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with how hard you drive your car since all types of people have had their trannies fail. It must have to do with the frequency and number of times with which the tranny has to shift. I'd guess that people with lots of stop-and-go driving tend to have their trannies fail more frequently.

My bad if there was already a poll on this..had not seen it. From what you guys are saying, I guess there really is nothing you can do to prevent a failure? If you are "chosen" it will fail. That sux...I feel like there is a ticking time bomb in my car. Really glad Acura increased warrant though!

No matter how hard you are on your tranny, it was designed to work. It should be "automatic," not "PROBLEMATIC." It's Acura's problem and now I guess they know it.
