New CL Owner- Advice Please!

Hey,
I just purchased a used CL 3.2 Automatic with 80,000 miles, for $12,000 (I have no warranty; a 2 year extended warranty was available but I turned it down)
I thought the price was low for the car I was getting, but I thought it was just a good deal.

Last night I spent hours reading about all the problems people have been having with their transmissions. It seemed there were two sides- the people who were bitterly and sarcastically complaining about their problems, and those who probably did not have problems and really didn't understand.

I think I'm a little confused... did I just throw 12 grand down the drain? I feel kind of like a chump for buying this car after all I've read on the website.

Please let me know what you think, if there's anything I could/should do, etc. Thanks,
Jarad

u should be fine, dont do anything stupid in the car (ie neutral drops) and the powertrrain warranty is until 100k, so relax. 12k is not wasted.

Tranny is warrentied to 100K. Do you know if it was replaced before you bought it? Even with the tranny issue, I don't think you wasted cash.
Welcome, and enjoy!

Have your tranny flushed and replace the fluid just for cheap insurance. I have personally never had any tranny problems. Only a small percentage actually have had any problems.
Enjoy the car, you'll love it.

Thanks Guys!!!

You guys made my day, I was worried there for a couple days.
Thanks for the reassurance. It's a 2001 CL BTW.
Talk to you later,

Jarad

I recently bought a 2002 CL-S for just over $13K with 62K on it and had the same worries... still do to a point. But every time i drive it i get a little less worried... and a little more

At that price... why not sink a few hundred more into it for a full tune-up/inspection? That might make you feel better too. I plan to take mine into the dealer when i have the time simply because it's making a few strange noises. Doesn't seem to be affecting the drive but why settle for anything less than what you want? Even if it costs me a little more to get those things fixed it's worth it not to have to think about what might be wrong with your new car every time you get in it.

Any used car is a risk... and I did buy the extended warranty for that extra piece of mind.

Either way, you did well. Enjoy that car... I know I am.

Just look out for the tranny problems. That will run you $12 grand by itself.

there is a recall... take your car in for the recall so they can install an oil jet kit on your tranny.... or if it is bad they will put a new tranny in

Don't drive it. Then you will not suffer any of the current list of problems which includes the 5AT melt down. Welcome to the club!

you'll be alright man. i highly recommend getting a transmission cooler... it should help extend the life of the transmission.
