New to the CL, have a few questions.........

hey guys, first of all im a new member of the board. ive been reading for a while, but this is my first post. i dont have a cl yet, i hope to get one in about a year (when i have enough money). id like to get to know the car better before i get it, so i have a few questions.

1: when you put the comptech springs on, how big is the drop and do you need new shocks?
2: other than a custom intake and comptech parts, what else is avail. performance wise?
3: what is your biggest gripe with the car?
4: does the audio system need modding, or is it sufficient?

Welcome!

1)If I remember correctly mine dropped ~1.75 inches in the front and 1 inch on the rear end.
2)So far I've only bought Comptech parts. I haven't even look anywhere else.
3)Biggest complaint is the paint. It chips easily. I don't have any rattles or any other problems. Check here for the most recent gripe session.

4)The audio system is sufficient for my needs but I usually listen to talk radio and not music. Most ppl would probably say it needs more low end.

I'm with Mike about the paint deal. This has got to be the weakest paint job I've seen. I have little pits on the bumper, where a rock or feather or something has hit the paint and chipped it. Since I need to fix the bumper anyway, and (PRAYERFULLY) theres a body kit available in a few months, I'm going to have a new bumper anyway.... I'd suggest a bra to protect the front, but I have no experience with them and they may damage the paint more.... just my .02

1) The drop with Comptech springs is 1.25" in front and 1.0" in back. I'm riding on the stock shocks until they give out. Who knows how long that'll take. If you think you'll get shocks, get them with the springs because they have to take the back seats out to put them on and you'll save $$ in labor!!

2) Not sure anything else is available at this time. Eibach makes some springs that will drop it a little lower.

3) Rattles, rattles, rattles, but I have an early production model (#1681)

4) Stereo is okay. Some people like it, some hate it, it depends upon your tastes and what you're looking for.

FutureCL,
I've had my TypeS for 9 days 22hours 13 minutes and can say for certain...i love it!

I can't give any input on the springs and such since mine is still completely stock, but here's some thoughts to consider.

The stereo is great and loud even if it could use a little more low-end bass and treble. But how can you go wrong with an in-dash 6 disc changer. Add an amp and equalizer if you really need more depth to your sound (there's a forum post about doing this with the stock head unit). Anyway when you're doing 110mph on the highway with the windows down and moonroof open who really cares if the sound isn't perfectly clear.

I have had a couple minor noises from the back seat, but it's cold here in MD/DC so i'd contribute it to "shrinkage".

Personally i think the car rides great already for the type of driving i do, so springs and larger wheels are unecessary to me. I will eventually invest in some sways, an air intake and K&N filter though.

If i were you and were considering buying one, i'd wait for the 2002's to come out and pick up a left-over 2001 at a deep discount. I don't expect many changes for the 2002's other than a new color or two and maybe a minor cosmetic change to the fogs. From what i've read and heard on this forum that's the most i'd expect.

Hope this helps.

1: don't know, don't have them yet...
2: don't know, don't have them yet...
3: Have to agree about the paint, I have the front bra, helps some, I just use it for longer trips, not around town. Haven't had any other problems, no rattles or anything...
4: I haven't modded the stereo yet, I really don't think it is that bad, does need a little low end boost though...

BTW - Welcome to the forum!!!
