New CL Coming?

Hey guys, nice site you have here.

I've got a 2001 Cobra which is almost paid off, and I'm looking for a luxu car for trips and general driving to back it up. I've fallen in love with the new TL, however I don't want a 4 door if I can help it. Will there be a new generation 6 speed CL based on this new TL? If so, do you know when it will be released? If it's gonna be over 2 years or somethng, I may just have to buy a TL, I'm really feelin that car.

Thanks for any info.

The 03 CL-S 6MT wont disappoint. However, I dont believe they're as easy to locate as a 5AT.

I dunno, I just like the newer styling on the TL, especially the interior, its very nice. I could cover some miles in that car. I'm just not a 4 door person.

I guess the new 6 speed Accord V6 coupe is an alternative to the CL right? Not as much on the bling side, but mechanically very similar right?

the v6 accord has 20 less horsepower than does a cls, in terms of 1/4 mile they are very close, though.

Yes there will be a new Acura Coupe... it may or may not be named the CL. And we will see it for 2006.

It will be SH-AWD and based on the current TL platform.

What is "SH-AWD"?
will it be a standard AWD, or some type of electric motor hybrid?

SH-AWD is the `super handling all wheel drive` system that you see on the new 2005 RL.

Welcome and rumor has it (and soopa has the inside scoop ) that it will return but I don't expect it anytime soon; maybe two years.

The AV6 is similar in performance but lacks some items which the CL-S has. The engines are a little different, J30A4 versus the J32A2, along with the CL-S having the HLSD. The 6-Speed TL is a fine option too if you can live with 4 doors, which IMO, is easier to do than the reverse.

It also depends one what your plans are, leaving it stock or modifying. The J32A2 (CL-S)currently has more potential than the J30A4 (AV6) or the J32A4 (new TL).

BTW, what part of Atlanta are you from??

Standard AWD with three electonically controlled clutches per say. There is one primary input pack for the rear differential which engages or disengages the system. With it disengaged the car is a FWD vehicle. With it engaged power is sent to the rear which there are two more clutches for each wheel. This allows them to very the power between the rear wheels as needed.

I'd leave it 100% stock. Maybe a drop-in K&N at the most.

I live downtown.

In that case I would go with the new TL 6-Speed if you can't wait a couple of year. Plus, the 4-door may be a bit easier to live with downtown.

If Acura doesn’t come out with a respectable coupe to replace the CL-S in the next 3-4 years, I’ll probably be defecting to BMW.

A sales person where I got my enterprise rent a car from yesterday told me that R&D for Acura was looking to possibly make a convertible out of the TSX. There was also supposed to be a smaller MDX style SUV on the market as well, but neither had a definate time frame on these.

Soopa's got it right. A new CL is due out late '05, but it might not be called the CL anymore. Acura is thinkin of launching it under a new model name, hoping to attract new buyers along with all of you who will want to trade your first gens in for the '06.

They are hoping the name change will minimalize the old model for new model trade, because they make less money when you do that. They want a whole new crowd, and I here it's supposed to be sportier than the current CL's.

Me and Soopa droppin knowledge

Exciting possibility either way.

Soopa,

Going to have to respecfully disagree with you on a 06 CL Coupe.

I got the follow from e-mail from some i know from Acura corp ( higher management)

As of my latest knowledge, there is not to be a replacement for the
departed CL. I think the RSX will be the only coupe in the lineup for a
while.

AS of right now here is the 2006 list of Acura.

2006 RSX redesign; MDX restyled, re-engineered

RSX: A reskin comes for the 2004 model year, followed by a redesign for 2006.

MDX: The sport wagon will be restyled and re-engineered for the 2006 model year. A 3.8-liter V-6 is expected.

If the CL survived a redesign would be targeted for the 2006 model year.

Thats how i know it to stand right now ( i would like to be wrong), and of course like anything that can change.

If a 06 CL was in the works more people would know about it, and there would be some kind of leaking to the Auto media about it. Nobody knows nothing.

Disagree all you wish

I know for a fact from reliable Acura sources. I've never been wrong about my Acura predictions before... and I don't plan to start.

a MY 2006 Acura Coupe on the TL platform with AWD is fact.

btw... most speculation has claimed this will be a MY07 car that we will see in 06.

I have reason to believe it will be MY06. but dates change.

fact remains... we will see a AWD 2 door Acura to take the CL's place based on the TL platform in the 40k range.

Soopa,

So if its all the above info is out on the open about every other Acura, they why is there nothing about the CL for 06. What's so secret about a CL And if its not released until 07 then thats over 3years, anything can happen between now and then.

And as of right now the only new acura for 07 release is the 2007 Acura RDX, but then again you knew that right ?

Most Manufacture's seem to have there New/redesigned car's of whats going on up to 2008.

Honda/Acura are no different, so i ask why all the hush hush, whats so special

HA is always hush hush about NEW models.

nothing new to that.

Fact is... I own the main portals of information for the CL TL and TSX. This site being one.

I have contacts and I have details...

You dont have to believe it. But I'm telling the members of my site what is FACT.

try getting a 40k m3 new

you also gotta realize that the price is speculative... new car prices rise by an avergae of 2k per year.

the TL right now is about 34k... 4k increase int he next 2 years isnt so dramatic.

especially at current inflation rates

Soopa is bang on about the new CL. The efforts that were going into the re-design of the NSX, have been postponed, and are now being devoted to the new luxo Coupe. The only thing that is not set, is whether it will be released next spring or summer. Of course Acura will deny all of this. Since the old Coupe was the first Honda product to have been entirely designed and built in America, one wonders how the above efforts on the NSX, which originates in Japan, could be devoted to the North American Coupe. I can only guess that effort here translates to dollars spent.
